Okay there's already the rumour that ODH's big reveal this Tuesday will be to announce a new network deal to get boxing onto CBS. Here's the thing though.
Wlad an Vitali are two of the most watched boxers on HBO whether HBO want to admit it or not. The fight with Haye managed close to 4.5 million viewers which is more than double the much touted numbers for the Hopkins fight. But HBO cut them for reason no one can explain. Now americans have to watch their fights on Epix, where they mostly pass by hidden from the real world.
Now we have a situation where the potential for a network deal for boxing is at a high, right when the K bros announce their intentions to fight over in the US, and without any remotely useful network to cover them. ODH has already stated before he plans to work closer with K2 to ensure they get better coverage in the states. This all seems way too much of a coincidence that all these things are happening at the same time. Oscar's a smart guy. Even if HBO have had their heads up their asses so much they ignored their TV ratings, Oscar sure as hell must have noticed. They can manage close to 5 million on a network small as HBO, that translates into monstrous ratings on a free network.
HBO doesn't like other networks taking their boxers, but HBO don't want the K-bros so there's no chance of them coming in to ruin this by hoarding these boxers for themselves like they have done for years. If this was Cotto, Margarito, Hopkins or Chavez Jr you can bet HBO would lay down a huge pay day for them to price CBS out of the game. They don't want Wlad though and won't come running up to him with their wallets open.
