Even though it ended in a highlight reel type of KO. It was more entertaining watching celebrate over making weight than the actual fight.
I would never understand the praise and the benefits of the doubts that this man gets. He has done nothing since Soto. And, in that fight Soto just ran out of rounds. Soto was coming strong at the end.
The man is 35 years old now and has yet been proven against top level opposition in his whole career except for Soto. And, somehow people think he can beat some top level JWW's even the mediocre ones?
I just don't get the hype, the praise. Reminds me somewhat of Judah.Last edited by Roman Moreno; 03-02-2012, 11:33 PM.Comment

Guzman at this age is not supposed to beat Khan, Bradley, or even Peterson.
But he'd whoop Maidana, Matthysse, Soto again, Morales easy, Judah, I don't know about Garcia he's pretty good, Alvarado, and Paris.
So out of the top 10, I'd have Guzman over 6 of 10, that would be pretty good for a 35 year old who's not even ranked in the top 10 and has seen better days, and wasted the last years of his prime battling weight issues.Comment

Guzman is a little slower now at 35 obviously, but he still has the skill set to beat a Morales, Garcia, Judah, Paris, Alvarado, Maidana, Matthysse, Soto, at 140 lbs.
We'll see what happens.Comment

He fought alright competition back from 2005-2008/2009, the weight issues were just bulls**t though and he ruined the final years of his prime. He beat Humberto Soto, who everyone is all high on now, handily and convincingly. H ebeat him 9-3/10-2 in rounds. He also had decent wins over Beltran, Barrios, and Fuenka, though the Fuenka fights were bulls**t because of the weight issues Guzman had. Guzman never really ended up getting the big break fight against a Pacquiao or Marquez at 130 back from 2006-2008, oh well. I really believe Guzman would have had a legit shot back then at beating one of them. Wouldn't have favored him, but he would have had a shot.

No way Guzman won 9-3/10-2 unless you score pro fights like if they're amateur fights. That was clear Guzman win. Soto was coming on strong and ran out of rounds. It really was a 7-5 type of fight at most 8-4 for Guzman.
Guzman never in his life showed against any fighter that he could hang in there with Pac or JMM. Now saying that Pac ducked him at 130. But, Guzman never showed that against anyone that he could beat Pac or again a JMM.
Could he beat Morales, and Judah, and maybe Soto now? Maybe. But, I wouldn't bet on it. And, the only one out of those 3 that might have the most left is Soto and that is saying a lot.
Don't know why you're saying he can beat the likes of Garcia, Alvarado, Matthysse or even someone as mediocre as Maidana. When was the last time he proved it? You going off hype more than going than substance.Comment

He`s defense/reflexes are gone, he was getting tagged by a guy like pabon, he was slow too. I think even Mathysse could beat Guzman right now.Comment

i'm not going to say he can beat someone like maidana or alvarado, but i deff think he should be given a shot at a name at 140. he's wasted too much time and he's looked pretty good for his age and level of comp he's been facing. hopefully he gets in there with someone before he really starts to look his age. tonight was a good win, a little too much time wasted, he could've taken him out earlier imo.Comment
