Build up a fan base in your own town first before you try to branch out. gary russell jr is from the DC area and has been a pro for 3-4 years and still hasn't fought in this area. Now when he at the table asking for money do you think he should bank on hometown folks traveling to see him fight? Hell no cause he hasn't given them a reason to. Guess what more DC are folks willing to travel to see Peterson vs Khan cause he brought a big fight to his area besides having a few small fights here already. I did read on a local DC boxing blog GBP trying/working on trying to get a fight card at the verizon center in dc for the summer and Russell jr will be on that card if it comes off.
Ward doesn't have a passport. End of....

Who did you argue as a qualified opponent for Ward?

so ward did not have a broken hand for the froch fight. i see

Big respect for both these guys. Bute willing to fight in Froch's backyard is a big risk and Froch instead of taking easier fights for paydays taking on another top fighter when a loss would probably finish him.

A loss wont finish Froch. There's always Froch-Kessler II to be made if the dane doesn't retire. People will pay lots of cash to see these two go at it again.

Maybe i'm wrong but i don't think Kessler would see a Froch rematch worthwhile if Froch is beaten by Bute. Too big of a risk for not much reward he'd be targeting a big payday against the Bute/Ward winner.

Here are the official break downs/ timeline on why Bute vs Cloud didn't happen "before" Bute fought Johnson.

Long story short, Bute called Cloud out for a 173lb catchweight fight. Team Cloud gladly accepted; only for Team Bute to turn around and decline their proposed fight because Bute was waiting on the SS winner.

My whole point is Bute had the chance to solidify his stance as "deserving" a shot at Ward, by fighting Cloud. Instead, he chose to fight Glenn Johnson coming off a loss, while admitting Glenn to be his "toughest" opponent to date.

To me, that doesn't prove "deserving" of anything, regardless of rankings.
Didn't know about that, so thank you for letting me know. As for you're statement though how does fighting a guy who is a belt holder at 175 come into play as Bute fighting the best at 168? If that fight were to have happened don't you think people would've said that Bute is bailing on the 168 division and going up to LH to avoid tough fights at 168?

Also Green K for making your point clearly and without using insults or race as a way for you to make your point.
