Comments Thread For: Calzaghe Wants Maccarinelli at 175 To Build Cleverly Bout

Renowned Welsh trainer Enzo Calzaghe took a break from boxing after the retirement of his son, former super-middleweight and light-heavyweight world champion Joe Calzaghe, only to find the lure of the sport too strong to resist. Calzaghe is currently working with former charge Enzo Maccarinelli, who he guided to cruiserweight world title glory. Both men have pledged to bring titles back to Calzaghe’s Newbridge gym. With Maccarinelli in particular keen to net another world strap in order to honour the memory of his father, Mario, who passed away last month.

      No, no no, no.

Big mac is NOT a LHW. I do wish he would forget fighting at 175, it’s ridiculous. Stick to CW as that’s where you belong.

If he can perform to the best of his abilities there then Enzo C is right, he shouldn't be going up 25lbs for a fight that isn't particularly meaningful.

If Enzo can comfortably make 175 and can bring his power with him why not? And with his lack of power Cleverly most likely can't hurt him, and I would....wait a minute? Isn't this the same fighter that the dangerous hard punching Ola Afolabi knocked out? Never mind.

Boxing Scene did the same thing with Hatton not too long ago.
