Comments Thread For: Jonathan Oquendo Could Be Facing Charges Over Crash

Jonathan Oquendo, the WBO's number one ranked super bantamweight, could be facing criminal charges following the death of his girlfriend, Melanie Miranda. Last weekend, the two of them were involved in an accident while riding on an ATV. They collided with another vehicle and both suffered injuries. Oquendo broke his right elbow and suffered several minor injuries, while his girlfriend slipped into a coma and days later the doctors declared her brain dead before turning off the life support.

This is a very unfortunate incident that could have been avoided if they had taken simple precautionary measures like wearing a helmet, but accidents of this nature are very common here in Puerto Rico & he already ruined a young girls life & her family's life as well & now he could be facing serious charges & now his future could be in a world of s h i t...I posted this on the 20th of Feb when news about this incident 1st came out & there was no news about her outcome yet..Now there's talks about her organs being donates & look at the last sentence of that post..--->Let Me clear things up for U guys..1st of all it wasn't a car accident, it was off-road vehicle accident on an ATV(or known here in Puerto Rico as a "Four Track")..Oquendo was riding on some off road trails on an ATV with his girlfriend sitting behind him(for some reason that I can't explain that's very common here) & there were 2 ATV's in front of him that were going too slow & 1 was blowing a lot of smoke so Oquendo tried to pass both of them but when he saw there was a Jeep coming head on he went to go back to where he was he ran into the other ATV's..Oquendo claims the brakes on his ATV didn't respond..Oquendo injured his elbow but his girlfriend suffered cranial fracture(the news didn't say if she or both were wearing a helmets like they should) & she was induced into a coma while Doctors dealt with her fracture..But on till now no one has died, so I don't know why Colon put that title..& accidents like this or worst on ATV's are very common here & Doctors at the trauma center in Centro Medico de Rio Piedras(as of now Puerto Rico's only trauma center & 1 of the biggest in the caribbean) refer to people who drive these ATV's as "Organ Donors"!!

Wasn't it something to do with another ATV though, someone said that in another thread when this was announced.

RIP to the girl though, but in a way she knew what she was doing when she got on the back with out any form of protection, she took a risk and it went wrong. All condolences to her family and friends.

my wife asked me how come there arent near as much famous puertorrican athletes as there used to be, my answer, very simple, lack of DISCIPLINE. Everyone wants to be rich and famous but no one wants to deal with the sacrifices and hard work it takes to make it. I remember a time where the MLB was flooded with puertorrican allstar players, I can only think of Molina now... Kinda sad. What the F! Does a supposed profesional boxer has to do fooling around in an ATV just three weeks before an important bout, shouldn't hr have been on the most intense part of his training, not mention in the conditions he was doing so.

There's a general lack of discipline permeating all aspects of PR culture, no matter what social status. No one likes to follow the law, no one wants to be courteous or respectful or mindful of others...

                  It's sad, but true.
