The bottom line is what Wlad was doing was winning him the rounds and what Haye was doing was losing him the fight so it was totally up to him to try something different to change the outcome but he was satisfied with just not getting badly hurt and didn't dare take the chance of doing something special on that night.
Why are people so critical of Haye's performance against Wlad?

I don't get it, most of you call yourselves hardcore boxing fans, how did you expect Haye to fight? Have you not watched his career?
I see so many people using this argument to criticise Haye, his career, plus using it to bash him in terms of not deserving another pay day, and robbing the public. But I knew how the fight would go, I knew the problems Wlad presented to Haye and vice versa, it was always going to be a chess match. You have one guy who is a single punch counterpuncher, and another guy who likes to fight at range and ties up in close. Both fighters have stamina issues and questionable chins.
I am certain that Haye thought he would knock Wlad out, but he couldn't do it on the night because Wlad fought a brilliant fight and used his superior technique to nullify Haye Yes he talked a lot to sell the fight, but why did you as "hardcore" boxing fans buy into the hype?
Why do you feel he deserves so much critiscm when 90% of his career was very entertaining and full of knockouts. I am not trying to patronise anyone or defend Haye or his career, because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I would genuinely like answers. I think he is an extremely talented (but flawed) fighter, and he has a good career, and I also think a lot of people on here twist facts to hate on him.
People don't excuses.

Because Haye wasn't playing to win, it was pretty much how I expected him to fight because he really isn't a throw caution to the wind sort but that was his only chance.
I wasn't to critical of him but I gave him no chance to win because how he fights with his size just makes Wlad a bad match for him, Haye got a lot of people to buy in though so I can see why people would be critical of him.Comment

if hadnt have talked and bigged himself up and wound up the bros he wouldnt have got a title shot without having to go through all the ranked heavyweight bums, maybe he should have had a few more fights at heavy and got more experienced and especially with the bigger taller/rangy heavies, then gone for the media hustle to bag the k bros fight.
I somewhat agree on you take vs Vitali, but again you start to fall into the habit of ascribing totally false traits to Haye. If he ups his workrate, if he jabs more, if he keeps Vit on the backfoot etc. Haye will fight exactly the same way he always fights. If you think that's good enough to beat Vit then fine, but don't turn Haye into something he isn't. That's what lost countless Brits their betting money in the first place.Comment

You want to know why people are so critical of his performance just look at some of the posts in the build up. Haye's fans had a totally unrealistic expectation of their fighter's abilities and of Wlad's, which is IMO the main cause of the backlash after the fight. They thought Haye didn't try. He did, he was just outclassed. Blame ignorance, gullibility and an effective hypemachine for that.Comment
