If his training camp is starting now, he is going to peak too soon, unless it is more to do with tactics and just keeping on a reasonable level.
Training harder and longer does not mean training better, hopefully Cotto and his handlers won't think that.

That training has to build up over the weeks and then start come down about 10 days before the fight.
But he is likely to hit his peak maybe in 7-8 weeks time then the extra training will be damaging him.

The best part of the fight will be when Cotto's wife and kids rush out of the arena because they can't bare to see Cotto taking all that punishment.
I almost forgot, Cotto does do one thing better than Floyd: the way he backs up. It's a semi back pedal with to two foot shuffle and nobody does it better. It doesn't win him fights, but he looks good doing it. He's face is a bloody mess but he backups great.

You can tire your body out by doing that. If you peak too early you screw everything up.
You can end up leaving a lot of YOU in the gym, and come fight time, even though you trained for 3 months, your body is exhausted and over peaked.
Training hard is great.. but rest and recovery is just as important.
Like I said I don't know their exact camp and how they do things but 12 weeks is a long camp.
It's not always how long you train, but what you do during the time that you do train. I will say, he looked good in the Marg fight.

I mean the word "preparation" was used. It was also mentioned that he hasn't stopped taking care of his body since the Margarito fight.
I think people are getting confused as if he hasn't stopped training since the margarita fight. I think the goal that Team Cotto was attempting to state is that they are "preparing" for the fight now.

If Cotto started training early...I think we all know the reason why. He's overweight again...and the only way to get into shape is to start early. First week or two to concentrate on losing the weight slowly.

What I personally took from the article is like I stated before; Team Cotto is preparing for the fight. WHo knows exactly what that involves. At the end of the day we are talking about professional fighters and athletes. It's safe to say they know what they're doing.
Preparing for the fight 12 weeks out can consist of many things but I didn't feel by this article that he's actually pushing himself in camp right now but rather preparing i.e. tactics and game plans, dieting, workout ragmen's etc.. Doesn't mean he's in there sparing, running etc 8 hours a day.

Again why would that be a problem?
