as far a production values and promotion of the actual fight goes I would say it's HBO , but imo I think that the showtime color commentating is a lot better and less biased.

also gotta give props to Ian Darke and Jim Watt with Sky
I think Ian Drake is the BEST Boxing Play By Play announcer...PERIOD! Sure they can be bias as well...but they also maintain their professionalism in doing so, HBO seems to make things...PERSONAL! Especially Merchant!

Its hard not to have both... I had both for a long time, and recently had to drop both.
I think HBO is cheaper, also usually has the big fights, B.A.D is awesome (boxing after dark) . Sho has some good programming, and has more of the up and commer matches that are really fun to watch, so its kind of depends on what you're looking for.
Ask your provider if there are any specials going on right now, HBO and Showtime almost always are running a $6 a month for the first 6 months, deal. and get both.
I just ended my subscription because they went back to full price, usually if I hold off for a month or two, I'll get a call with a "please sign back up, we have a deal for $6 a month... etc etc..." $12 a month for both is doable, but $35 a month when all i watch on them is boxing is a bit pricey for my taste, thats 3/4 a PPV each month.

Showtime absolutely bosses on hbo. My guess is those that voted for hbo don't have them both. I do & I'm telling you, if you want quality matchups it showtime all day.
They even have upncomers on friday. Then championships on saturday.
If you want pampered superstars & bias comentary by all means get hbo you get plenty missmatches & fights where the bias have you genuinely wondering if you're watching the same damn fight.

Show time for year round and just buy hbo's ppv
Because they have cards on show time a lot called shobox plus they've had a good few years of good fights hbo always puts on the same fighters plus sho time has mma and even tho I'm not a huge fan they have some good fights too so you get all around more fights per year then hbo but dont quote me on that

I think I'd go with Showtime. HBO has a lot more title fights and many more recognizable names, but too many times they aren't even in competitive bouts. Showtime doesn't really buy bad matchups(on paper, atleast)
HBO has way better production value, but I can't stand the HBO commentators anymore. Nowadays the WCB team just sound like bitter old men. And listening to them is painful. I prefer the BAD commentating crew. Even though they can be biased, atleast they don't complain as much.

As lots of you guys have already displayed the comparisons, HBO's commentary can be really foolish at times. I like Lampley for his blow by blow commentating at times, but when it comes down to a fight where him or merchant have a "favorite" they, and especially Lampley can't control themselves with their bias. That gets really frustrating, us hardcore boxing fans can pick up on it, but the casual fans could be completely swayed by the commentating. There was an interview with Lampley and he was questioned about how he gets so emotional at times, and he more or less said he can't control it, that goes hand in hand with his bias. He lets his emotions overshadow his professionalism. Showtime's commentating is usually unbiased and professional, and has been really good since Tarver has came on. Never any cheer leading, it's being called how it truly is, and I don't know about anyone else but you can't get any better than that. All that being said, if you want to see all the lucrative fights, you really need both at the end of the day.
