I don't hate Mike Tyson. I was a huge fan of his during the early part of his career (how could a fight fan NOT BE?).
But, he became ridiculously overrated over time, & still is currently. Combine that with several disgraceful & gutless performances, & I find it hard to worship at his altar.
True, i would add that Tyson's heart was that of a professinal boxer but not in an exceptional case. Boxers like Evander Holyfield and Arturo Gatti would never quit and use their heart to find ways to win when they were deeply in trouble. Tyson doesn't fall into the same catagory. Yes, he could take a beating but could he come back from one and win? The answer is no. This is the difference. Better to phrase it, Tyson had the heart of a fighter but not of a champion!

      Masterdirector....
It takes heart to be an aggressive fighter ? Yeah, it does. I sense you admire Tyson for fighting in that risky style.
Interesting.....you praise Tyson for going forward & taking chances in order to get his own. Yet, you criticize, ridcule, & dismiss fighters like Jose Luis Castillo & Diego Corrales for doing the very same thing.

Hmmm....if they were black dudes from your beloved New York City....you'd be ferociously lapping at their TAINTS, bro'. You know it.

I have lost respect for you as a poster, with this. Just can't respect a hypocrite.....& a hypocrite with reverse-racist tendencies, at that.
Whatever, Tyson used skill. He wasn't just a wild brawler. Sure, he was basically reduced to this in his last years. You've mistaken me to not like in-fighters in general. Lumping Tyson among the likes of Castillo and Corrales is an insult to Tyson. He was MUCH MUCH MUCH more skilled than these two.

Come on, Tyson was fast, hard hitting, and had good defense. He didn't just come forward aggressively. He had real strategy and head movement. He threw his hands with real bad intentions, not just wildly throwing.

Castillo and Corrales are a couple of wild brawlers without the skill that Tyson once had.

So kiss my ass, but if you try I'll kill you.

How can you see Tyson's skill but not Castillo's?

Castillo is not the lunkhead you'd like to make him out to be (Corrales, sad to say, kind of is). If he was, he wouldn't be as successful as he's been, & certainly wouldn't have troubled Mayweather like he did.

Of course, Castillo is also not 100th the front-runnin' ***** Tyson has shown himself to be.
Castillo has had tough fights, & returned to perform well after losses.

i'll tell you another thing mythical & overrated about Mike Tyson...

The supposed JAB he stopped using. He never had a jab, in the way a jab should be.
He didn't stick it, vary it, work it up & down.....He would chug forward & pump his left fist out as he advanced, that's all. Half the time, he jabbed with his left hand, while standing southpaw.
I laugh when I hear people talk about this weapon that never existed.

I'd just like to point out that there's no such thing as reverse-racism. Racism is racism.
