Why wasn't Jeremy Lin a story while at Harvard?

You miss the point. The super hype is because he is Asian and playing well. If he was black (and a "one-and-done"), I just don't think the hype would be there.

For instance, the next good African-american golfer will get tremendous hype because he will be a novelty. The novelty in Lin's case is because he is Asian and came from Harvard. That's what makes it an interesting story.

If not, answer me this one question: Has there been a story about Lin, whether in print or on video, that has not mentioned that he is Asian and graduated from Harvard? Has there been even one?

            • Lol

Yo what are u clowns talking about ?? Smh ... How about give Lin his much deserved credit because he certainly earned it ... And how about Lin had the Knicks winning 4 in a row without Amare and Melo ... And to top it off he dropped 38 against Kobe! So u clowns need to stop with this racist comment and give him his due because he turned out to be a really good player that the past teams never gave a shot too .. He did 4 games in a row I think it's safe to say that this isn't a fluke and that he can ball

now you're slowly trying to change your stance on why he is being hyped. this thread is about what mayweather said and you are siding with what he said. Let me refresh your memory on what he said: "Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he's Asian."

And that's not the case at all. he's being hyped up so much because he plays for New York, which is Media capital of the world. Of course a black guy that didn't get any offers from high school and didn't get drafted to the NBA and was sleeping on his teammates couch and came from 3rd string to put up ridiculous numbers would get the same exposure, especially playing for new york. Him being Asian just makes it extraordinary.

when Blake Griffin first entered the NBA you can't say he wasn't hyped to hell on espn, so was Lebron james when he first got in. It's Lin's time right now and all i see is black people getting mad because all the attention isn't on a black player.

                LOL at angry black men

                • Once again Jeremy Lin got more hype and was talked about more in one week than Kyrie Irving has been all season....just saying.

why did Lebron get an ESPN special on deciding which team he was going to sign to after leaving Cleveland? Was it because he was black?

I mean we can go back and forth all day. If he wasn't Asian he would still be hyped right now because of his whole underdog story.

Where did I bring up LeBron? LeBron was hyped up since he was 14 cause he was a ****ing unseen prodigy. His hype and Jeremy Lin's hype are totally different

Im talking about a player like Kyrie Irving. A future superstar, a franchise PG, who's playing great this year and has the Cavs in the playoff hunt. Lin got more publicity and buzz in one week than Irving has had all season. Hell Irving only played 11 college games and for him to be this good is just as nice a story as Lin's out of nowhere story.

Irving has been outstanding all year, Lin has been outstanding for 4 games yet Lin gets all the publicity? Mayweather was right, if it was another Black player doing this it wouldnt be as big
