I guess this isn't very surprising considering the commission allowed Lazarte to even fight. The guy is the dirtiest fighter I know. He never should have been allowed to rematch Solis much less fight Casimero... On a side note, this kind of crap happens everywhere! The Golota vs Bowe riot was just as bad if not worse!!! Remember that?

If the Federation is protecting/coddling Lazarte, and he feels no need to apologize for what happened, so be it. His dirty behavior in the ring leads me to expect very little, if any, gentlemanly behavior from him out of it.

On the other hand, I am hoping that Sergio Martinez and Marcos Maidana will stand up and express their regret over this whole incident.

They can at least show every boxing fan and decent human being that has heard of this fiasco that Lazarte is in no way representative of their boxing practices, and the rioters are not representative of their people.

If the Federation won't do anything, how about the police? After all, the riot had nothing to do with the match itself. Shouldn't some people--whether part of Lazarte's team, or simply an audience member--be arrested and punished? Or should we expect Argentine boxing to include extracurricular fights?

It's the opinion of just one man.

That being said, if the opinion of the Argentinean Federation president is reflective by the majority of the boxers and boxing fans in Argentina, then there should be a ban on Argentinean boxers coming to America to fight. They need to realize that the sport of boxing, like MMA, has to be incredibly mindful of public perception and even one incident like this could set the sport back years.

Clean up your act or continue to be an embarrassment to the sport and shunned.

Based on your link, I now tend to agree with your original post--in fact, not only is Gelloani being greedy, he's also not very intelligent about hiding it. He didn't even give Lazarte or his people some time to formulate an official apology. What, no condemnation of the Argentine Boxing Federation, or the lack of security personnel? No expression of relief that his fighter came out unscathed? How about expressing anger over people getting seriously hurt? How about demanding an investigation? Or, how about simply complaining about how dirty the fight became, and talk about efforts to clean up future fights?

Instead, he decides to exclude Mar del Plata from his next Argentine itinerary. Oh, the horror, the horror...I'm sure the Argentinian boxing economy will be taking a major blow from this. Dirty fighters all over the world just had small heart attacks, thinking of the consequences of their dirty tactics.

And, to top it off, we should be grateful to this promoter for not demonstrating his terrific street fighting skills. He probably could have annihilated every single Argentinian in the venue, but he restrained himself, because he was so concerned about the not making the situation worse.

What a hero.

I'm not too familiar with the state of Philippine boxing. Is Gelloani simply intent on making cash for himself as quickly as possible, at the expense of the long-term physical and financial health of his boxers? To be fair, his boxers should be happy with the early paydays, too.

I'll grant that he may not be prudent with managing careers, but at the other extreme, you have Arum who seems to be trying to prolong the revenue streams of his fighters, e.g., Pacquiao, at the expense of possibly disenchanting the fans, and possibly waiting so long that by the time the fighters are ready, they're already past their prime, or worse, lose in an upset on their way to a big fight, thus completely missing the potential jackpot.
