it's actually pretty simple...arum wants martinez to sign up with top rank if he wants to fight jr.
don't know why people are comparing this with bradley's situation. in the event that pac loses to bradley, arum still has the winner that he could build up. it's not the same with martinez...if he beats jr, arum is left with nothing but the loser.Comment

I'm not convinced Arum would put Martinez in with Chavez even if they were both promoted by him because Martinez is too old and will probably retire soon. Martinez won't give Arum enough fights for it to be worth giving Chavez a loss. If Chavez is exposed by Martinez and somehow Martinez becomes a star because of that win, he'll gain a new cash cow that might only make him money for 2-3 more fights, but he'll lose his young cashcow that could have potentially make him tons money for 10 more years. It's not worth the tradeoff. "Too old" was actually the reason Top Rank gave Martinez for not signing him right before Dibella got a hold of him. The funny thing is that Bob Arum was actually looking to sign Martinez during his fight with Margarito. In an English broadcast of the Margarito fight, one of the commentators said that Bob Arum called Martinez something like one of the most promising prospects of the division. But he loss so there went his chance.it's actually pretty simple...arum wants martinez to sign up with top rank if he wants to fight jr.
