Nigel Benn was one of the hardest punchers to ever grace the 160–168lb divisions. He could change any fight with one punch and He also had well-rounded skills and could box if he needed to.

He was able to adapt much better to any fight style so I would choose him against Byrd. It would be like Ike Ichabeuchi (sp?) vs. Chris Byrd with Chris constantly being on the backfoot, circling to his right, and nigel taking care of business on the ropes.

Benn was the complete warrior and for me is in a different class to Byrd.

If Benn had a weakness it was his lack of head movement which made him easyish to catch with crisp jabs and counters (Eubank) but there was no escape and unless you could box his head off he would eventually wear you down.

          hmm

Chris Byrd has taken flush shots from power hitting heavyweights. Not criserweights, lightheavyweights, or supermiddleweights, but heavyweights. Even vs Ike he was able to get up and was not knocked unconcsious. Benn's power would not affect Chris Byrd, and Byrd would frustrate the hell out of Benn with his slick southpaw style. Byrd's power at 168 would also be something more feirce than it is at heavyweight.

Benn under Tibbs had A LOT of head movement, under Tibbs he was always bobbing and weaving and very difficult to catch.

this would be a great fight at 168... as talented as byrd is, and he is gifted, i see this fight going something like this. byrd gives benn a boxing lesson through the early rounds, maybe later on too, but benn has enough power to turn everything around with one clean shot. after seeing him **** up the G man, i think he'd eventually get to byrd, although benn would probably get knocked down first somewhere in the fight, he'd get up, realize he's losing on the cards and swarm Byrd, probably knocking him out or forcing the ref to step in - TKO stoppage.

byrd fought as an amatuer at middleweight - 165 pounds, won a sliver medal at the 1996 or 1992 olympics. when he turned pro he was only 168 lbs and gradually became heavier and heavier

Benn wasnt a brawler. Maybe in his early years, but he could box well.

I havent seen enough of Bryd. But i know Benn had trouble with good slick boxers.

                    Tough one to call.
