Mayweater uses his left better than Cotto uses his left hook, but this thread is misleading. Overall, Mayweathers right is better because he is so accurate with it but he has yet to KO anyone at WW legitimately. Cotto's left while less accurate has more power and can end of the fight.

The problem with this thread is that I don't think Cotto's left hook is his best punch at least in this fight. Floyd gets hit with a jab more than any other punch and Cotto's jab is quite possibly the best in boxing. It has power, quick and he is always moving his shoulders now making it hard to time with an overhand right. People say Cotto is open for it, but in all of his fights since Manny I can't seem to think of more than 4-5 that were even worth mentioning. Foreman landed 2 solid ones in his fight, and I remember one in the corner. With Mayorga Cotto got hit by two good ones that he buckled on. But this was from a 175+ pounder so keep that in mind.

With Marg he really didn't land any GREAT clean solid punches, I remember more uppercuts than anything else. The fact is Cotto isn't really open for right hands, even Mosley didn't land THAT many and even those were looping and not straight rights. Floyds right isn't going to be used to go over Cotto's jab, it would expose him to be countered himself on feints which Cotto can do as well. This fight is much tougher for Floyd than people are expecting though I still expect Floyd to win, possibly controversially.

I'd say Cotto's left to the body, but the question is can he get tru mayweathers defense? If they fight Floyd fight there won't be any space to atack the body. If for some strange reason it becomes a brawl & Floyd gets in the ropes & trades it'll only be a matter of a few Cotto body shots to make a big impact on the fight, but Floyd is a ring general & he will make Cotto fight from the outside.

Btw I'm not a floyd fan. I'm a big fan of Miguel & I'll be rooting for him all the way.

Yea, but problem is that Floyd can punch...he's not a huge puncher but Cotto will have respect for Floyd's power. Floyd's also better in the pocket than Cotto...

Both very good punches. Cotto doesn't seem to be in as love with his left hook as he was when he was younger though. Mayweather's offense vs Ortiz was primarily lead straight right hands. Lately, it's Mayweather. Early in their careers though, I'd say toss up. Cotto crack with his left and it might be harder than Floyd's, but he doesn't throw it as much or as accurately.

I'll take Mayweather's quicker right hand with superior timing and accuracy over Cotto's looping shot.

Floyd's favorite two punches are his left hook and overhand right. It'll be interesting to see who'll get off faster when they both throws their left hooks. I think Cotto will be more comfortable throwing his jab more, and use the left hook less. Cotto should throw his left hook to the body when they're in the pocket[he'll have to be very careful], and use his jab when they're on the outside.

I'm not really sure, Floyd is quick enough to parry with the right then counter with the right. Once or twice it could work but in the later round the counter would be a thing of routine.

                      X2

I'm very happy that Cotto is getting this payday. But man he's going to get tagged, with the right a lot.
