I think the problem is two fold.
1st, no fan likes it when a fighter gets special treatment because of his name. Chavez is clearly ducking his mandatory challenger Sergio Martinez, which the WBC stated at their convention in December 2011. almost any other fighter would have been stripped for refusing to honor a mandatory defense.
2nd, Fans know Chavez isn't very good. if he were Arum would have stepped up the level of his opponents. just because he is the son of a legend he's getting pushed down out throats. against Manfredo I'm not sure if HBO couldn't praise him enough, it was a Chavez love fest. this guy gets so many passes that any real fan of the sport gets disgusted. some Top Rank shills are trying to make Rubio into something but he isn't, come on it's the same Rubio who quit against Pavlik. Chavez isn't good and writers and HBO should just accepted it. I don't like being told somebody is good when it's clear he isn't.
the whole boxing is a business is a piss poor excuse. Boxing is a sport first and should give its fan the best match ups. it's not like I'm paying money to watch Bloomberg TV for the opening of the stock exchange. other sports are businesses too and yet they manage to do just fine though real competition

As far as I'm concerned Jr is a MW Butterbean.
He needs an impressive showing against Rubio to change my mind.
They are counting on Rubio being slow to win this fight. The WBC has Jr's back so pretty much sure if he gets into trouble they will bail him out some way

Whats not to like about JR in the ring?
Its everything outside of the ring that I can't stand. Which is thanks in large part to that vile snake, Bob Arum, and the disgusting WBC.
Otherwise, inside the ring, he's a hell of a guy to watch.
