I know Mayweather isn't in his prime, but I can't help but think he's fighting in this new type of style not for the crowd, but because he doesn't really have a choice.

Mayweather has put on a lot of muscle from his earlier days and I can't help but think he doesn't have the ability to fight an entire fight (sticking and moving) like he use too.

If he ever fought a guy like Kirkland, I'm not sure if this new toe to toe style is the right thing to do.

      Thoughts?
He used allot of footmovement against Marquez, and after that, he stopped...that was a scared way of fighting...scared to get close...fans didnt like that...on another note, from what I've heard, everytime Floyd gets hurt, he walks the guy down...some people knew he would walk Shane down after he hurt Floyd...but I think after Pac had beaten Cotto flatfooted, and it impressed everyone, so after that fight, Floyd refused to move in his fights....he doesnt use any slick defensive moves because all the fans said it was boring...I LOVED that stuff...I bet if he still used his slicker defense, he would humiliate these guys have them looking bewildered like in the marquez fight...now Floyd is so aggressive, that he walks u down and tries to do damage, opposed outclassing u and making u look like a fool..

While it's true Mayweather used to walk his opponents down, the difference between what he did then and what he does now is striking. I don't believe he can implement the sort of strategy he used against Corrales, for instance, today. In his prime at 130-135, he would often box (using his legs) for the first few rounds before settling down and working his opponent over. He doesn't do that anymore and that's to be expected given his age, style and a life in the gym.

I don't think he can move around as much as he used to which is why he's more stationary now.

It's approximately the same development as Muhammad Ali.

                  I think both.

He's got great defense on the inside, but maybe to save energy and or his legs aren't what they used to be, he clearly isn't as dynamic as he once was. But as I also tell people, Floyd isn't that young anymore and I think a lot of fans forget that, Though he hasn't taken serious beatings or anything, inactivity CAN zap your reflexes at some point (which in most cases for fighters is the 1st thing to go).

He obviously has become a lot more confident with his skill level. He knows that they're gonna get a couple of shots in but at the end of the day he has the upper hand.

I agree with this; very true.

I noticed earlier in the thread someone commented that Mayweather always uses effective aggression except in the Baldomir fight. But I was referring to Mayweather's bouts with Corrales, Hernandez, Castillo 2, Manfredy and a few others. I wouldn't necessarily call those bouts effective aggression.

His style now is obviously much different.
