If anything this is just Yuri moving up 1 weight class from where he typically would be fighting.
    True statements.

    But...

    1. Gamboa, it seems to me, is already pushing his physical limitations even at 135.

    2. Rios is a huge lightweight who drains down to 135.

We'll see. Maybe many of us are fretting over nothing and Yuri proves as effective at 135 as he has at 126. I sure hope so; the lightweight division is much more prestigious.

That's impressive if that's accurate. And, if so, it's conceivable that Gamboa might even fight at 147 one day. Oh, baby!

I actually thing he is serious about getting a Pacquiao fight.

Rios is obviously the top fighter at 135 and if Gamboa beats him, he is that much closer to possible getting Manny 2 or so fights down the line.

I know Pacquiao vs Gamboa sounds ridiculous at the moment, but :

        1. Gamboa and Pacquiao were in the same weight class (130lbs )for the longest.

        2. Gamboa is pushing 30, so he is probably going for broke by taking big fights while he is still in his prime.

Oh, I know he's serious about fighting Pacquiao! lol These Cuban fighters are a different breed. They've been brought up under very trying circumstances, and they know their shelf-life is short. Yuri and Co. want to make their big score ASAP. Fighting Manny is like hitting the boxing lottery.

It's true, Gamboa walk-around weight is ~155lb... he loses a lot of weight for his fights.

Just look at the boxers Emanuel Steward was and is verry successfull with.
Hearns, Lewis, Klitschko......its a tall men trainer! Hes not the right guy for Gamboa. Cotto left Steward because he was not good for him.

I see your point, but I'm not convinced. Cotto has changed trainers a few times. As you say, Steward "was not good for him." But does that mean it's because Emanuel doesn't know how to train shorter men? Not necessarily.

We'll soon see how Yuri does with Steward in his corner. Even then, it'll be a few fights before Emanuel can leave his stamp on Gamboa.
