  • I Think Floyd Would Fight Sergio At 154

I just dont think he would fight him 1st. He's a smaller guy and had 1 fight at 154 a million years ago. I think the difference between Sergio & Cotto is that Sergio can fight comfortable at MW, Cotto spent a ton of time at WW, Cotto is a righty, and Floyd feels that is a safer fight out the 2 "right now". The same goes for Canelo.

I think Floyd still is uncertain in his mind about 154. The same goes for his handlers. Therefore, you wanna test the waters 1st. To me, I have no doubt in my mind that if he were to fight a Cotto or Canelo at 154 right now, won comfortably, and felt fine with the weight, then he would be way more open to a fight with Sergio there.

He just dont wanna do it now without testing it out 1st. People make too big of a deal out of the 150 statement. Trust me, if he dominates Cotto or Canelo at 154 then he would be open to the Sergio fight at that weight. Its one of the reasons why I wanna see him fight a Cotto or Canelo.

Not so much for those fights but it gets us closer to the Sergio fight because Floyd would then be clearly more aware of what he's capable of at that weight. Right now he's in the dark with it a lil and he is not dumb enough to use Sergio as the measuring stick, unless it was the only fight out there left but he still has plans to fight Pac.

I personaly think that he & his team think they can beat Pac & Sergio but they would feel much more comfortable with more rounds 1st since the Ortiz fight didnt go long and they would feel better about Sergio with a tester fight at 154.

I think if he doesnt spend a crazy amount of time in jail then you will hear Floyd screaming like never before to fight Pac as he wont have anymore rust, and if Pac doesnt want it then he would be extremely open to a Sergio fight at 54(unless Khan has a great win at WW and seems ready to fight ASAP)

Sergio is a top P4P fighter so I don't see why Floyd wouldn't fight him....atm, RIGHT NOW...I got Sergio beating him...based on present form alone...but then you have to factor in the weight....how it will affect each...still like Sergio in that one...would be a good fight for BOTH imo...if I was Floyd I would pursue that dance...tons of respect comes with that...but as usual, his critics would find a way to discredit that win IF he pulled it off

his last fight at 154 was against oscar,,, so i wouldnt blame him go fight cotto at 154 for cotto's belt its a good fight for mayweather to test out the 154 division,,,

then go after sergio (either or 150 or 154) i see mayweather UD'in him

Mayweather and Pacquiao need each other, or it will be a black spot on each other's careers. Sure, if Floyd fights Cotto, Martinez, and than either Kirkland/Alvarez (depending on what happens), his legacy will still be fine, as would Manny's, but they still need to fight.

Maybe Floyd is going to fight Cotto, to grab a belt at 154, than fight Sergio. I don't know.

I have said it from day one, neither Floyd or Manny should feel an absolute obligation to fight Sergio Martinez. He's still a Middleweight and they are still Welterweights. Would it enhance either guys legacy....absolutely. But, there is no obligation to fight him. And people need to stop saying Ray Leonard was a Welter who went up to 160 and fought Hagler. Leonard was a natural Welterweight and won his first title at 147. Floyd started his career at 130 lbs. Mayweather is much smaller than Leonard.

I am still holding out hope for Mayweather-Pacquiao in May and Mayweather-Martinez in December. But, if there's no Mayweather-Pacquiao in May, than Mayweather-Cotto at 154 and Pacquiao-Bradley are fine by me.

Thats not true. Im one of the only people if not the only one who didnt want it on May 5th and Ive said all along that I dont think either guy wants it on May 5th. They both rather have it at the end of the year and I think its better then because Pac can fight someone good & kill them which will hype the fight back up after his performance against JMM.

Ive also said that I think Floyd's team & father have convinced him that his inactivity will come back to haunt him. He needs to be more active and I think they want 1 more fight since he only got 4 rounds out of Ortiz. They want 1 more fight to knock out the kinks before he fights Pac or Sergio

Only two real challenges for Floyd nowadays are Manny at 147 and Sergio at 154.
Problem is the first fight is much more profitable for him in reputation and money terms and facing Sergio would give him nothing but risking that 0.

I ll take my hat off to Floyd if he signs the Martinez fight at 154 in a near future.

Floyd fans have been clamoring for this fight going on two years now. Werent they suppose to fight in dubai?

How many threads have floyd fans made about a supposed fight between sergio and floyd and it always never happens.

Look at all the fights floyd left on the table at 147 after beating ricky hatton then abruptly retiring when the welter weight division was the deepest and hottest at the time with a prime miguel cotto, prime antonio margarito, prime paul williams, younger shane, and a host of above average contenders likes of clottey, collazo, & cintron.

Now he cant make a fight with the best opponent he has ever faced in his career.

Arent you floyd fans sick and tired of his act? I mean just look at all the fights that floyd was suppose to fight in and test his sublime skills yet they never happened.

There's a common denominator to all these fights not happening.

Insert Fighter here/ Floyd Mayweather JR.

I'm talking about Martinez. Yeah he has a fight signed, but I know he'd drop that opponent in a heartbeat if Floyd offered him may 5th. I wasn't talking bout Pacman in the slightest.
