But, the problem is that networks would want fighters that bring ratings. But, the fighters that bring ratings would make more money on HBO or Showtime or and the big stars on PPV.
    Good post...

If they had Berto Vs Ortiz or kirkland Perro on reg tv boxing would be in good shade.

**** p will in his prime would have been great TV.

Boxing will never get back to the networks with big time fights when HBO and Showtime are giving bank...Even ESPN would pay more than what the networks will.

RJJ is right, NBCsport( aka Versus) is a paid channel, NBC would be a decent channel, I doubt that even free people would watch. The attention span most have is too short for boxing, my friends watched UFC last night and were pissed with it, and those were only 3 rounds.

For it to work right, the partners have to start being fan friendly and not just money friendly.

Do you guys living in the US get Box Azteca and Sabados de Corona? Every Saturday night, always good fights in those.
We don't get PPV, but fights aren't live, they start about an hour later

I don't think NBC or CBS would pay $1 million for events the money is just not there UFC underpay fighters so they could do an entire card on low budget

And guess what, the first fight was awesome, the second fight was trash and the 3rd was ok, stop over-hyping a decent event.

Mainly because there is a lot of risk involved, a promoter would have to sell the events to sponsors and then have to work hard as hell to draw ratings.

It is so much simplier on the high end to have people just pay to watch, which has been a part of boxing for a long time~ just an extension of the closed circuit.

Plus there is the whole the fight need to be good to draw people in, but it is tough to draw people in off the jump because for the first few shows nobody will know who is who so the ratings will likely be poor, which makes getting more sponsors hard.

There are other issues also like crappy fights, a general apathy toward boxing with some peopl hating it, or guys can get hurt badly which doesn't make people want to watch more.

They probably can't sell enough advertising for it to be viable.

The nanny state has slandered the sport so effectively over the past 30 years or so that it is now a niche market.

How much money do they stand to make selling a fight on public tv?
