I wouldn't put it in those terms. imo Baldomir is a far more skilled and intelligent fighter than Margarito, but stylistically Margarito is all wrong for Baldomir. Would have been an interesting and entertaining fight though.
How about "the majority of people"?
I was pretty sure that Mayweather didn't speak to Margarito until he beat Judah and left TR, however I bothered to double check my facts this time and on google the earliest results for negotiations between Mayweather and Margarito are late April which is when Mayweather had already left.
Kenny's criticism of Floyd reflected many people's views at the time, and if he hadn't have fought Baldomir after beating Judah there would have been a far louder outcry.
Being the best fighter in the division isn't much help if no one (sorry no hyperboles, change that to "few people") know who you are. If Floyd had've fought Margarito he would have been criticised for fighting a bum, with Baldomir you can at least say that Floyd was fighting a bum who was the legit champ.
Hehe I was exaggerating but I wouldn't put it past a few of the more extreme Pacquiao fans. I'm just making the point that a lot of people don't give Floyd the credit for his victories he deserves.
I knew about Collazo but I'm not familiar with Hatton's early career. Still, it's a bit unfair to doubt a fighter on the basis of one of their early fights.
Let me rephrase myself, Judah and May weren't prospects as in young talented fighters who were yet to face real opposition, I meant prospect as in prospective superstars. Both Judah and May had achieved a lot but neither were widely known to the public in the same way as guys such as Tyson or De La Hoya. Both Judah and May were highly touted, and an undertone of the fight was to see who the new face of boxing was.
lol I'm in complete disagreement. You must have been a pretty hardcore fan during the mid 2000s to know Margarito, the impression I've gotten is that Margarito wasn't known outside of Mexico until he signed with TR. To put it this way I'm Australian (and boxing gets next to no exposure out here) and at the time I was only a casual fan, but going into the Margarito Williams fight I knew Williams but had never heard or Margarito. I'm not saying that this definitively proves that no one else knew Margarito, but it fits in with my belief that Margarito was not known by the average fan until the Cotto fight.
Anyway, tomorrow I'll rep you simply cause it's nice to be able to argue about Mayweather with someone who doesn't do the whole "Fraud Gayweather" thing.
