  • Floyd Mayweather will never fight defensively against a southpaw...

The reason why he will never do so is because he cannot rely on his reflexes when fighting a southpaw. When someone like Floyd gets a rhythm of slipping and weaving punches the way he normally does with an orthodox he will not do something that is out of his nature and that can get him easily timed. He learned that from the Judah fight. Mayweather blocked all Ortiz's shots and came forward with right hand counters after rolling his shoulder to Ortiz's jabs and fighting with a high guard while backing up as Ortiz threw a flurry. Ortiz could have had moments later on in the fight, but it was only four rounds. Pacquiao is at a disadvantage with reach and since he is more confident in leaving himself open you're just gonna see pull and counter rights from Mayweather. Having almost a 5 inch reach advantage along with foot speed will not allow Manny to plant his feet. It's going to be even worse with Martinez if he is Floyd's next opponent, because the dehydration is going to cause his skin to bruise easily with any little pop that touches him and Floyd will treat his head as a double end bag since he leaves his hands down...

He learned his lesson against the first southpaw he fought (I think was Reggie Johnson). That's when his dad told Roger to not put him in against southpaws anymore. Floyd later went in against another southpaw (Jesus Chavez) and was much more aggressive than he was against Reggie. From that point he continued to walk southpaws down and pound them out.

You almost always have to come forward against a southpaw if you're an orthodox fighter.

I wouldn't write manny off just yet since the hype of the fight will have both toe to toe. This will be Floyd macho fight...

You come forward against southpaws because they need distance to get off with their awkward lefty angles.

Since most southpaws focus on fighting with some distance they often can't fight in closer quarters as well or some can't fight up close at all like pacquiao.

This common inability among southpaws to fight tight just happens to benefit Mayweather because he's one of the best today at throwing short punches and inside fighting.

I see this fight playing out similar to Mayweather-Hatton. Floyd doesn't play into the crowd. Based off the consistent rumors throughout the months from his camp he's determined to stop manny, and I think he will too.

              Good post.....BUT,

Good post here. But, easier said than done. Manny is not normal. Everyone seems to think he is this one-dimensional fighter who only comes foward throwing wide wild punches. This is totally inaccurate and he is actually the opposite. He throws straight, fast, hard, and accurate shots. He constantly moves his head and his feet are as fast as his hands. If Mayweather wins, it has to be by K.O. or he will be outpointed in my opinion. He just isn't busy enough. Eventually that has to cost him in a fight. Outside of May's right hand, he doesn't throw many other punches on a regular basis. Manny can neutralize that punch with the way he fights. May's jab is decent but not the best so his reach won't be that much of a factor because he fights to survive. Manny is also faster than him when throwing more than one punch at a time, which means he could either catch him exchanging or out throw and out land him over twelve rounds. What do you think?

I think you need to watch more Mayweather tape.

Mayweather has won the majority of the rounds before against a fighter averaging around 103 punches a round.

Trust that pacquiao won't be throwing his usual 70-80 punches per round vs Mayweather. Juan I'm willing to exchange Marquez limits him to only 50. Mayweather lowers everyone's workrate if he isn't purposely letting them punch themselves out.

You should watch some more pacquiao tapes too. manny neutralizing right hands with his style? ROFL. That's the punch manny is most vulnerable to. filipinos know they need to get right.

Mayweather has one of the best jabs in the business and is the King of Fighting Tall.

How the hell can someone fight to survive if they dominantly win the majority of the rounds they have?

If Mayweather brawls too much or gets too aggressive with Pacquiao then Pacquiao would either win by ko/tko him or win by sd/ud

Coming forward doesn't automatically mean brawling. Certain fighters are more creative than others see the Mayweather-Judah, Mayweather-Mosley, and Mayweather-Ortiz tapes.

pacquiao has the mentality of a bully and would respect effective aggression especially if his own aggression is being negated. Morales had success with plenty of aggression.
