  • Comments Thread For: Jackson Talks Mayweather-Pacquiao Mess, Roach's Ability

In the first part of my interview with respected trainer John David Jackson, I caught up with the former two-division champion to get the latest on everything he has been up to in the South Florida area. Jackson spent a memorable period training the likes of former lightweight king Nate Campbell and Allan ‘Sweetness’ Green but now is focusing his attention to an emerging crop of young talent. I know who he refers as the snake it's the Mayweathers. But I also considers Jackson is a failure.

Jackson is a bitter and biased BRO as expected...

      He has some interesting points...

But he isn't fair towards Pac
"last time I checked 147 is the limit",BUT Pacquiao made 143 for Marquez, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for Jackson.

Loosing weight for a fighter is a problem except for Pacquiao, I guess Pacquiao is a semi god...

Funny how the Clottey's beatdown is ALWAYS out of the equation when it comes to Pacquiao last (drained) opponents...

He's completely off in regards to Roach. Was Roach a great fighter? No. But he understands his craft, that coupled with his years under Futch, is enough to transition from fighter, to one hell of a teacher.

What's funny about this is that Futch was a great trainer and thought his fighters how to fight on the inside. For some reason Roach it's incapable of teaching his fighter how to fight on the inside. I guess Roach wasn't paying attention when it came to that.

He's not saying anything different than any other trainer is saying. I hear the same thing all around.

I don't deny for one second that a guy like Jackson has a ton of knowledge about the sport, he seems to have some strong opinions about the politics of the sport for sure and I would bet those opinions aren't too far off the mark.
I just have a hard time understanding his critique of Pacquiao. You seem to have a lot of seemingly intelligent people in and around the sport saying some asinine things when it comes to both Pac and Mayweather. I think the hype has gotten too much to the heads of some of these folks.

Short memories I suppose. Back before Pacquiao started going on this run (before De la Hoya) people were already praising the guy for his accomplishments. He moves up walks through some big names rather easily, and its all because these guys were weight drained and washed up? He didn't force these guys to sign the contract to fight him. He lived up to his end of the deal every time has he not? Comes in to the ring in great shape, and proceeds to dominate. so if he loses to Mayweather, will everybody say "I told you so" he sucks. Same with Mayweather. He has dominated everybody out there and in my opinion is the best in the game, so what happens if he loses to Pac? He'll get **** on too. I expect that kind of thing from casual fans but not from former champs.

Give your opinion on who you think wins and why based on their skill sets. Don't sit there and tell me all the guys these two have fought have been cherry picked, because you come of sounding like a hater. Besides you can pretty much make that argument with just about everyone. That's the state of the sport, guys cutting weight or going up to make the huge paydays.

These are the kind of haters that are bad for the sport. Saying Roach can't be a great teacher if he wasn't a great boxer? Was Eddie Futch a great fighter? Was Enzo Calzaghe? Emmanuel Steward? They're just spreading hate and propaganda to bring more successful guys down, like the Mayweathers.

Same as this guy's statements on Pacquiao's fights. Not one mention of how Pac came up from flyweight and is an undersized welter. Not one mention of Pac being the smallest fighter and the fighter who went up the most divisions to take these catchweights, which have been part of boxing since it'sinception. Not one mention that Pac had to go up 13lbs from LW, had fought at SFW the same year, to fight Oscar and that Oscar was signed to fight Floyd at the same weight and fought at 150 the fight before. Not one mention of Pac having to go up 7lbs to fight Cotto and that Cotto was a small WW who had to lose just 1lb having weighed 146 the fight before. Not one mention that Margarito was a career welterweight and that the fight was only made at 150 because Sulaiman whored out his WBC belt, or that Margarito weighed 145 vs Mosley. I'm sure he gives Mosley full credit for that. Just pure one-side hating.

He must be black with a chip on his shoulder or a Mayweather supporter. He didn't balance it out by saying Floyd at WW has fought only 3 guys out of his 7 opponents who were coming off more than one fight at the weight. Oh no, Mayweather gets a pass. Honestly sick of the sport with these bigots so easily allowed to spill their garbage in the media.

Reads more like an interview with Roger or Floyd Sr.
