Gotta Luv John, because that's real talk baby!

John, boy you laid it out there and only a real fighter can appreciate it. People don't get it but Manny could fight and was a Champion even before he started working with Freddie. As for being a great fighter to be a great trainer I don't agree with that; however I do think you needed to be a fighter or have been around the sport for years to learn. I have been around this sport as a fighter and fan both amature and professional for 30 years and I'm still learning so I understand when you have these guys pop in the door just to get paid under false pretense.

Same as this guy's statements on Pacquiao's fights. Not one mention of how Pac came up from flyweight and is an undersized welter. Not one mention of Pac being the smallest fighter and the fighter who went up the most divisions to take these catchweights, which have been part of boxing since it'sinception. Not one mention that Pac had to go up 13lbs from LW, had fought at SFW the same year, to fight Oscar and that Oscar was signed to fight Floyd at the same weight and fought at 150 the fight before. Not one mention of Pac having to go up 7lbs to fight Cotto and that Cotto was a small WW who had to lose just 1lb having weighed 146 the fight before. Not one mention that Margarito was a career welterweight and that the fight was only made at 150 because Sulaiman whored out his WBC belt, or that Margarito weighed 145 vs Mosley. I'm sure he gives Mosley full credit for that. Just pure one-side hating.

He must be black with a chip on his shoulder or a Mayweather supporter. He didn't balance it out by saying Floyd at WW has fought only 3 guys out of his 7 opponents who were coming off more than one fight at the weight. Oh no, Mayweather gets a pass. Honestly sick of the sport with these bigots so easily allowed to spill their garbage in the media.
i don't fully agree with the guy's comment about having to be a great fighter to be a great teacher, it can help but is not necessary.however i don't believe roach is a good teacher, rather a good trainer. and yes there is a difference.

the thing about pacquiao going up in weight is explained by him and roach by saying that he was growing and needed to move up, and that he's finally reached where he's about comfortable to stay. so it's not the same as deliberately dragging someone out of their weight division in order to gain yourself an advantage- something which freddie roach is quite unashamed about given interviews he's taken part in stating such.

The best way to get rid of bigotry is to not spread it yourself... Good points in your post but, your delivery sports a chip. There are fighters and fans that are not black that feel the same way about Pac. Same as there are fans and fighters that see May as a punk, cherrypicker etc.

Roach's strategy, and it's a strategy alot of trainers use, is to focus on the area where the fighter is good (in Manny's case, speed and angles, ie ambush) and perfect that. Focus on the one thing and get it to a level where it's exceptional, instead of focusing on everything and just being ok at everything. The problem with that strategy is that it becomes difficult to face guys who know how to negate what you are doing from a technical standpoint.

The reason Floyd is as good as he is, is that like Mike Tyson he is a boxing student. He has watched alot of boxing in his lifetime and studied it. What works against certain styles, which styles beat what etc. Also once he notices a weakness he works hard to correct it. He may have gone 12 zip against Baldomir, but if you watch the fight closely he had difficulty in the first few rounds due to Baldo's awkwardness. He later hired him as a sparring partner.

I don't deny for one second that a guy like Jackson has a ton of knowledge about the sport, he seems to have some strong opinions about the politics of the sport for sure and I would bet those opinions aren't too far off the mark.
I just have a hard time understanding his critique of Pacquiao. You seem to have a lot of seemingly intelligent people in and around the sport saying some asinine things when it comes to both Pac and Mayweather. I think the hype has gotten too much to the heads of some of these folks.

Short memories I suppose. Back before Pacquiao started going on this run (before De la Hoya) people were already praising the guy for his accomplishments. He moves up walks through some big names rather easily, and its all because these guys were weight drained and washed up? He didn't force these guys to sign the contract to fight him. He lived up to his end of the deal every time has he not? Comes in to the ring in great shape, and proceeds to dominate. so if he loses to Mayweather, will everybody say "I told you so" he sucks. Same with Mayweather. He has dominated everybody out there and in my opinion is the best in the game, so what happens if he loses to Pac? He'll get **** on too. I expect that kind of thing from casual fans but not from former champs.

Give your opinion on who you think wins and why based on their skill sets. Don't sit there and tell me all the guys these two have fought have been cherry picked, because you come of sounding like a hater. Besides you can pretty much make that argument with just about everyone. That's the state of the sport, guys cutting weight or going up to make the huge paydays.

He's not saying anything different than any other trainer is saying. I hear the same thing all around.
