What excuses are legit and illegit for losing a fight ?

More often than not we hear fighters come up with excuses as to why they lost a fight, oftentimes the opposing camp and fans alike disagree.

So, what do you think are legit excuses for a fighter losing a fight. List them and elaborate why you consider it excusable.

On the other side of the coin are the silly excuses fighters claim for losing a fight, list them as well as to why you consider it a plain cop out

i would say the only legit "excuse" is if you were blatantly robbed. like the lara vs williams or chisora vs helenius fights. a fight where the overwhelming majority thought one guy won and the other guy gets the decision.

The only legit excuse is "I wasn't good enough" unless of course they were good enough and didn't get the proper credit but still that is up to who is watching so unless there is somethigng real nefarious that went down and not just an opinion difference there is no excuse.

illegit excuses are one where a fighter knows hes injured then goes into the fight anyway injured gets his ass whooped then blames the loss on the injury. but saying that hes not just gonna back out of a fight it could destroy his reputation/pride etc david haye comes to mind.

None (unless you were clearly robbed) If your not 100% for a fight you shouldn't fight. It's unfair on the paying fans.

''If he didn't split my eyebrow open with a punch, I would have won'' sounds pretty legit around here.

I think, so long as the loser gives credit to the winner for being the better fighter, explaining to your fans why you may have not been in top form is acceptable. But, using an excuse to discredit the victor is weak.

How about getting a metal plate inserted into your skull just before signing for a fight??? actually happened to barrera.

Also sometimes a broken hand can be pretty legit.

i lost the fight because a mystery man was talking with the WBA supervisor ... who made an unofficial scorecard .... that had no effect on the outcome!!!!!
I WILL NEVER EVER FIGHT FOR IBF TITLE AGAIN ... because the corrupted crooks made a hearing ... yes a hearing... because we couldn't bribe them .... and we had no argument so we pulled out ... because we would have embarassed ourselves.
