That's pretty much what I'm saying. I wouldn't fight Yuri for peanuts, but the opportunity to bag that scalp has to be a factor. A win against Gamboa would be big deal for anyone at 130. It would definitely add value to a fighter going forward. Some of these guys just can't see past the tip of their noses.

I would love to know what he was offered. If it really was offensive, then I don't blame him. But just to have a shot at Gamboa is worth quite a bit, in and of itself. A win against Yuri and your stock goes way up.

I just hope they find a worthy opponent for Yuri at 130. He needs a good fight before moving up to meet Rios. Broner would be nice, but I have a feeling they're not looking for him.

I know you want to see your boy fight, as do I, but without knowing what's being offered we have no idea if this was smart or not

while yes you can view this as an opportunity remember this is their livelyhood and if he is getting severly lowballed what's to say he cannot make similar cash on the island fighting lesser opponents THEN step back into the limelight?

You gotta like your chances even a little bit to take the chance on the money that was likely offered. I don't see why Rocky would have any confidence against Gamboa, Ricky Burns was making him look like a fool. How about Mendez or Burgos? Both are hungry, not sure if HBO would approve them.

I agree. But you can't be in the fight game and not have some confidence in yourself. You're saying that Rocky believes he'll have his butt handed to him by Gamboa, so he may as well get paid well for it. I don't believe that. Most fighters think they're better than they really are. I think Martinez truly thinks he deserves more loot. What I'm saying is that he's being short-sighted by focusing too much on the money. That is, of course, if the offer was reasonable in the first place.

Yuri might only be making a pit-stop at 130, so Mendez or Burgos aren't interesting to me. I'd much rather Broner or, better yet, Uchiyama.

So WHO is Martinez going to fight in the same time frame as he would have fought Gamboa that he is making so much more money against, that he would turn down a Gamboa fight????????? So Martinez thinks he is going to make more money NOT fighting??????? He talks about Broner but Broner is tied up with Perez!
