Bob Arum is experiencing the unintended consequences of using Mayweather to build his fighter's name and reputation. All it's taking to demolish the papier-mâché house of Pacquiao is a little reality, not some bruising fight, or an all-time classic bout just a little spit and rubber bands. It's amazing just how easily a fighter like Manny is torn down, such a feat would not be possible if his career had not been built on great matchmaking and Mayweather’s arrogant predilection toward alienating fans.

In order for Arum's illusion to have worked fully he would have needed to continue to create the idiotic impression that Mayweather was somehow running from a fight, but he's hit a snag or two. It would have been so much easier for Bob if he just told the truth instead of creating an elaborate fantasy for Pacquiao's illiterate fans to consume.

The Moral: If you're going to lie, keep track of what you're saying so you don't get tripped up by contradictions and obvious errors in reasoning and logic.
