So Martinez should have signed to Top Rank, so he can get swindled for money and probably STILL not get the fights he wants (like Pac and Bradley? :P )? Or stay with the guy who has made him who he is and has a great relationship with and has gotten him top level guys? That must have been a tough one. Sure, Martinez would have probably been fed Margarito next or someone like that..but Cotto? I love Cotto but Martinez can be a near career ending fight..too strong and fast for a Cotto who can't recover anymore. JCC Jr would have also not been fed to Martinez due to age. Arum can make money off of JCC JR longer. What WOULD be different is that Barker would have been over hyped as some type of destroyer of worlds and there'd be Martinez nut huggers all over the place. If Martinez signed/signs with Top Rank, it's basically a death wish..ESPECIALLY if his dream is a Floyd fight.

Edit: Agree with the above posts. Martinez is at a level where size/strength can really be the determining factor against a guy like Floyd. Now...if they fought at 150..I'm not sure. Martinez was much more explosive when hew as at 154...and if his weight cutting ability is anything like Nonito Donaire or guys like Ward..good luck with that 147 pounders....

Not even Arum as a promoter could make a fight with JCC Jr happen, or most of the other top guys. No other promoter is dumb enough to let their fighters fight their top guys because it'd look bad... You're knowingly going to throw a cash cow to the wolves? :|... Martinez needs divine intervention and hope someone grows a pair and makes the fight happen with him. As hilarious as this is, Martinez has a better shot at Floyd than he does these other guys..unless one of the top guys loses and wants to save face by getting a fight with him. Good luck Martinez.. Lol

look at the belt holders at MW.

                pirog
                sturm
                chavez jr

3 out of those 4 guys don't want to fight him. the other one networks aren't interested in. would cotto/chavez jr or any other fighter at the top or trying to reach the top go out of their way to fight this pirog if it wasn't their only option? i don't think so. even though that fight interests me, pirog needs more time to face top names/get known and have him and martinez be a big showdown. for now, that isn't what it is. martinez facing pirog wouldn't change a thing in his career. so if isn't a known named champ around his weight class that he isn't fighting, does he have to fight undefeated europeans to keep himself considered legit or prove himself legit? i'm sure if he faced one of these guys in europe he wouldn't get any serious credit for it. maybe just by SOME diehard boxing fans, but overall i don't think so. barker was a waste of time, but macklin is a decent name for now. he's having these considerable subpar matches because the top guys don't want to fight him (be it money or whatever).

exactly. . . so why should chavez or cotto fight martinez when they can make 3 times more money by fighting each other?

and like you said about only the diehard fans giving fighters credit. . . martinez isn't exactly mainstream. . he's on the cusp. . but chavez and cotto would get more credit from just as many fans for fighting each other, or even saul alvarez, than they would by fighting him. .

it's all about money. . . so you can't really take shots at chavez or cotto when sergio is doing the same thing. .

to sum it up in a perfect analogy: sergio is to chavez or cotto, as pirog, golovkin, or n'dam is to sergio. . .

What? Jacobs would pummel Williams? I don't think Williams is a good boxer, he has terrible flaws and he's completely unwilling to correct them, but Williams has done a lot more than Jacobs and if Jacobs fights like he did against Pirog he would be KOd by Williams.

Jacobs is just a prospect, nothing more nothing less, while Williams is a boxer with a long career fighting top boxers. Barker was still green but he did a good job against Martinez by using his weight advantage. Macklin IMO defeated Sturm in Germany and Dzinziruk was also undefeated and was a LMW champion. All of those guys have far better resumes than Jacobs.

come man you gotta be joking.

Williams was one of the most ducked guys in the game. Dzinziruk was in the same boat, even Alfredo Angulo vacted his interim title instead of facing him.
Macklin is coming off a robbery against a top middleweight in Sturm.

I know what your saying about the money and all but really do you think Carlos Baldomir was a better PPV sell then Paul Williams for Mayweather.

money plays a part but it's just an excuse to avoid dangerous opponents. that's almost the only time money is ever brought up.
