It would have been a great fight pity it didn't happen but if if did I'd be surprised if Cotto didn't get the better of him. Hatton was never able to adjust. All he could do was come forward and slug. Sure he was decent at that but I think he would need more than that to beat Cotto who brings more to the table and can fight both coming forward and backing up.

a pity it never happened. i think after hatton beat kostya i don't think he was all that concerned with fighting threats. how carlos maussa got a shot before cotto is beyond me considering cotto had beaten carlos before hatton did.

if by "pick em fight" you mean they would have had to pick up hatton's limp body off the canvas I agree 100%!!!

that weight showed cottos chin to be questionable and prime hatton could have beaten 140 cotto. not 100% but 50/50. and beaing beat by the 2 best in your era doesnt make you a bum like some ppl seem to think about hatton. hatton had grit, power and pressure at 140 that would have given cotto problems. i wouldnt bet the farm on hatton but my regular 50 bucks on fights i like.

I agree, that was a sick fight that should have happened shortly after Ricky became lineal. Hatton at that time was a beast.

I think that Hatton beats Cotto @ 140.

I don't know if Cotto could have handled the pressure. It'd be like a 100mph Margarito (granted margs probably had wraps yadda yadda... lets not go down that road). I don't think Cotto likes the constant pressure. Also Cotto could be rocked under welterweight.

I lean towards Hatton on this one, especially if they fought in Manchester.

That was a unification fight. Nothing wrong with that. Ricky had just got the lineal strap. Rome wasn't built in a day. And Cotto never showed any desire to go lineal @ 140 before he left did he?

hatton gets dismissed so easily for losing to floyd and manny the man was lineal at 140 beat kostya tzsyu great left hook great body work great pressure and better chin than cottos at 140 in my opinion. flipside though cotto has more boxing ability a beautiful jab better left hook and i think even at 140 a lil more power. but i think rickys grit, pressure, and in fighting would have given miguel enough problems to pull off the win.

Cotto @ 140 was also chinny and at the time Hatton was considered to have a granite chin.
