if either guy gets stopped or takes a beating he's probably going to be on the back end of his career

neither guy is going to improve.

marcos maidana beat the **** out of victor ortiz and he's still got the exact same style (and still cant get out of the way of a right hand)

I don't think its over for either guy if they lose next, but I think it hits Berto worse if his takes another loss to Ortiz.

I don't think the loser is "done", but i think this fight will show who has more potential to become a future superstar and part of the "elite" in boxing. Ortiz has already gotten to the top and got knocked down, while Berto has been floundering a bit after losing to him. Make no mistake, this is a career defining fight, especially if the loser gets embarrassed.

I think Berto will be just fine career-wise if he bounces back and wins convincingly. He needs to fight smarter and more agressively this time around.

Ortiz needs this fight to prove that he is mentally all there and more mature. I think people and maybe promoters are questioning his mental strength after the Mayweather fight.

Neither fight is "done" after a loss.

Berto has more riding though because he already lost the first fight. Losing this one just proves Victor is better than him. However is Ortiz loses, it would setup a trilogy which can raise the stock of the winner of the trilogy.

Two losses to Victor hurts Berto, sure. Two losses in a row hurts Ortiz, sure. However, FAR from done. These guys are 24 and 28...This "lose or quit" mentality has got to go. If that was really how it should be, then most of the greats we have wouldn't have gone on to do greater.
