They don't get paid at all. Coyote Duran, who has been the editors for years and does a ton of work for them, doesn't get paid. It kinda blows, but it's a good place to publish your work and build a name for yourself while getting sources.

Max's staff is really tightly knit, much more than something like ESB. I would imagine Boxingscene is the same, but I don't write for them.

As far as the whole debate whether or not boxing writers are "journalists," I would absolutely say they are. Kim does a ton of interviews and actual reporting. I would say that most guys at Max actually do stuff like interviews, ringside coverage, etc.

Whether you agree with the articles is something entirely different. I actually disagree with a good chunk of what Steve has put out lately especially on twitter.

He definitely has a bias and it seems to me he has been really off mark when it comes to Mayweather (he's the one who reported Spadafora, M. Hatton, and Morales). It doesn't mean he isn't a good writer though. He is.

now if that's just him talking himself up on the radio because he lives with his parents in his late 30's because his "full time" job isnt on a paying basis, then i suppose i'd understand

the guy calls himself a journalist
he really isn't. likewise with kim.
i happen to like both of their stuff and read it anyway.

getting press pass (they are cake to get, for the record,) and talking to a few boxers does not make you a journalist

Steve Kim is terrible. Its him & writers like him that are destroying the sport.

Steve has preferences, who doesn't, but he calls boxing as it is and is as real as you can get. He has a grasp on what goes on, great contacts and is not shy to point out actual wrongs in the game. And if someone he may like does something objectionable, I believe he will comment on it. Boxing is lucky to have a guy so passionate, intelligent AND truthful about the the sport.

I write for Max. I don't get paid. I would say besides Montoya and Kim, the rest don't get paid either.

How are they not journalists? They don't make a ton of money regardless, but somehow are making a living.What they do though is what journalists do. They do research, interviews, cover fights, use their money for attending fights throughout the states.

They are well knit in the boxing community and have a lot of credibility. It goes beyond just talking to a few boxers, they are well knit and well known. Hell I would say even less well known writers like myself are journalists just because of the process that it involves. Writing an article is much different than typing on here.

If you don't consider them journalists, what do you consider a journalist? Someone who has their degree in Journalism?

i follow the dude on twitter and if any of you guys follow him his tweets are always ; oscar/goldenboy= bad and bobarum/toprank= good......

dude does nothing but bash oscar and golden boy but never says one word about top rank ... surprisingly even after these new recent events i was looking forward to what he would say but this dude still disagrees with it being bob arum 's fault saying " youre ignorant if you think the blame is on bob arum " and instead just goes on with his normal every day jabs at golden boy and oscar...

after reading his timeline i realize he blocks anyone that calls him out on it, one guy wrote " you'll never throw bob arum under the bus".. and he responded with " great and now youre blocked"..... wtf

i pretty much just follow these guys to get news, unfortunately there is no such thing as an unbiased journalist any more than there is an honest politician

Gabe Montoya from maxboxing (a collegue of Steve Kim) once said that toprank for example pays for flights and hotel rooms for boxing writers sometimes. in return the promotion company of course wants that you write good things about them. Im sure golden boy does the same thing with other writers.

What writers like Kim and Iole now do is beat the "Both sides are to blame" drum, to not have to write exclusively about why Arum and Manny are to blame. The evidence keeps on building and the most importing thing is now happening, fans are finally questioning and placing blame on Manny and Arum. Alot of this evidence of Arum and Manny being just as much to blame has always been there, so they could have always written about "Both sides are to blame" but at the time fans were just attacking Mayweather, which let writers like Kim and Iole to gladly ignore the evidence right in their face, and continue the its Mayweather fault angle in their writing. They cant do that any more so they settle for "Both sides are to blame" or like Kim is doing now going in a whole other direction and blaming Money.

Even Steve Kim, the one who started the silly rumor, then came out and tweeted he was wrong and the fight did more than 1mill.

Dan Rafael, former Top Rank ****sucker, said it did more than 1mill.

HBO said it did 1.25mill.

Just because you never read the news, doesn't mean they didn't happen.
