After Mayweather being able to fight on May 5th:

    stevemaxboxing Steve Kim
Will the morale brigade who talked of boycotting fights in the past, do the same as it relates to Mayweather on May 5th? #boxing

    https://twitter.com/#!/stevemaxboxin...74999111348224

This tweet just shows you where his mind state is, as if the boycotting crowd didnt go at Mayweather with boycotting claims long before people starting doing the same to Manny. But some how he questions will it happen to Mayweather.

honestly I think anyone not going after Arum because of the reports that Manny wants the fight are going to be viewed as biased

but IMO what Steve did is what I have been told several times

the money does not add up

and TV takes about 57% not 50%

What writers like Kim and Iole now do is beat the "Both sides are to blame" drum, to not have to write exclusively about why Arum and Manny are to blame. The evidence keeps on building and the most importing thing is now happening, fans are finally questioning and placing blame on Manny and Arum. Alot of this evidence of Arum and Manny being just as much to blame has always been there, so they could have always written about "Both sides are to blame" but at the time fans were just attacking Mayweather, which let writers like Kim and Iole to gladly ignore the evidence right in their face, and continue the its Mayweather fault angle in their writing. They cant do that any more so they settle for "Both sides are to blame" or like Kim is doing now going in a whole other direction and blaming Money.

Someone has to WANT the fight. The example I used was Tyson-Holyfield a la 91. After Ruddock II, Tyson reportedly insisted. He could have kept making bundles of cash (more than Holy fight to fight).

I agree with DE100, see below: (Why's Kevin Iole now not putting out as equally as bad articles about Arum and Manny)

            Mayweather exposed as chicken

            By Kevin Iole, Yahoo! Sports
            Tuesday, Jul 27, 2010

"HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg released a four-paragraph, five-sentence statement Monday which cast doubt upon the veracity of Floyd Mayweather Jr.; Mayweather’s best friend, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe; Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer and which forever eliminated any doubt about Mayweather’s intention: He’s ducking Manny Pacquiao.

There can be no other rational explanation.... Never mind that Mayweather has tarnished, perhaps forever, his legacy as one of the best boxers of all time. Given his disinclination to fight Pacquiao, it’s hard to regard him as the best fighter of his own time.......

Here’s what sports fans deserve: They deserve better than to waste their hard-earned money on “Money,” who acts as if he’s invented the sport....

Let him play in his fantasy world. Boxing doesn’t need him. And, truth be told, he’s wrong about his value.

No one is going to ask any more. How can anyone support someone with Mayweather’s arrogance, who cares so little about the fans who made him rich beyond his wildest dreams that he won’t even consider the fight they want more than any other?

Mayweather has run from his biggest challenge. The fans, even those who have ardently supported him through the years, will surely remember that. And the next time he dares to compare himself to one of boxing’s all-time greats, such as Sugar Ray Robinson or Sugar Ray Leonard, they’ll scoff.

He can’t hold a candle to either."

there are almost no "journalists" left in boxing

most of these young guys dont even go to college or get paid for their involvement with boxing.

max boxing gives their guys a small salary over the course of the year, but with the amount of money it takes to support your activities (hotels and airfare, you obviously get your ringside seat for free) you really arent being compensated

they are unpaid publicists and part timers largely

hell, even the ring is starting to sound like somebody is writing it from his mother's basement when you get to some of their columns
They don't get paid at all. Coyote Duran, who has been the editors for years and does a ton of work for them, doesn't get paid. It kinda blows, but it's a good place to publish your work and build a name for yourself while getting sources.

Max's staff is really tightly knit, much more than something like ESB. I would imagine Boxingscene is the same, but I don't write for them.

As far as the whole debate whether or not boxing writers are "journalists," I would absolutely say they are. Kim does a ton of interviews and actual reporting. I would say that most guys at Max actually do stuff like interviews, ringside coverage, etc.

Whether you agree with the articles is something entirely different. I actually disagree with a good chunk of what Steve has put out lately especially on twitter.

He definitely has a bias and it seems to me he has been really off mark when it comes to Mayweather (he's the one who reported Spadafora, M. Hatton, and Morales). It doesn't mean he isn't a good writer though. He is.

in short steve is a decent writer but doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to Mayweather

Steve has preferences, who doesn't, but he calls boxing as it is and is as real as you can get. He has a grasp on what goes on, great contacts and is not shy to point out actual wrongs in the game. And if someone he may like does something objectionable, I believe he will comment on it. Boxing is lucky to have a guy so passionate, intelligent AND truthful about the the sport.
