When Floyd retires undefeated: Overrated or underrated?

I made a thread 3 years ago saying he would never lose on another forum, it looks to be staying true since there aren't many challenges around his weight. When he retires, what do you think perception will be? Will him keeping his 0 after he outboxes Pacquiao in November be enough for him to be an ATG?

    Your take.

I think he's already an ATG if he retired right now.

I also think time will be really good to Floyd, once he's gone and we realize what a rare talent he was and plus not too many guys in the history of boxing have promoted a fight like him.

Both. Great fighter, but he didn't fight often enough and will be admonished for cherry picking. That said, and I say this as a huge non fan of Floyd, I don't think anyone in his era would have beaten him. He'll go down as a top 30 all time fighter but I personally don't think his resume warrants any higher of a rating.

Probably the best answer I've heard. I agree. He had a hard time etting fights at 140 but that's because no one would fight him there. And the Oscar fight at 154 was better and tougher than any fight at 147 at THAT time. Great post.

Floyds legacy is trash and he knows it. Thats why he said he doesn't fight for legacy or trying to prove whos the best. He will be ranked lower than Calzaghe for sure and possibly JCC Jr.

And anyone who thinks he even close to being in the top 50 doesn't know **** about boxing

Top 50 ATG and he would have done well for himself.

what? guys like floyd have no real legacy. floyd makes guys like SRL look so much better because they fought the best. their legacies are enhanced by all the ducking and cherry picking modern boxers do.

Fighters who retire undefeated are always overrated in the eyes of observers. Being undefeated is something that most human beings feel can only be achieved by cheating or fighting nobodies.

Floyd would have hung with everyone in his weight classes. Would he have won - IDK - he has skill, smarts, stamina, chin, heart, dedication to his craft, speed, enough power to keep you honest and on top of that defense. Boxers who have such a combination of everything a boxer needs are seldom...
