I love watching Serg but he doesn't pull strong ratings and doesn't sell tickets. He's not ENTITLED to HBO slots or their large checks. Hopefully Hershman will kill that era (but we'll see). Diversifying and getting more active might help him in the long run. Of course, his problem is that his age might preclude a long run.

Both Alvarez and Chavez Jr bring in 1 million+ viewers regardless of who they fight. HBO hasn't released any Sergio fight ratings since Williams II. Plus he's what, 36?

If HBO favors those other 2 over Martinez, it's only good business. Just the way it is. They lose nothing by letting him walk.

I mean it isn't that bad because it just means SHO is getting talented fighters and leaves more money for HBO to spend on other fights but it's just weird. Top fighter, in a division that is still popular, and they just let him walk. A dude that they tried to build up too.

True but Alvarez and Chavez jr are gonna get beat and beat soon. They keep winning but this isn't the old days, they are gonna have to step up very soon. Martinez may be older but he isn't losing any time soon.

HBO is smart to get rid of Sergio Martinez. I have been calling on them to do so for some time.

So far it's just one fight. If something comes along, HBO will surely be interested. This all smacks of overreaction a bit. A little free market don't hurt anybody.

I think it's time that you buy showtime anyways. It seems like HBO is having a stricter budget and SHO is going to be able to afford some quality fights or fighters. You now have Martinez moving over there, Williams(I know he lost but is still a name), and Victor Ortiz V Berto 2 are all on the network. I think HBO letting the foty on their network go to their competition is a sign that HBO is cutting back and SHO will be getting quality fights.

Showtime ****s all over hbo, who ever disagrees are ******ed. THE atmosphere on a showtime show is better as well. Brighter lights and louder production. On nights that they both have on events, if you flick back and fourth, you'll notice a WORLD of difference.

The WORST comparison was the night of Kirkland/Angulo. I won't even get into that.. LOL. NOTHING worked on the production end and there werent even mics in the ring so you couldn't hear any of the leather land.

i still can't believe ortiz/berto II is happening on showtime, that's crazier news for me. it's great to see though, before it was like every big name was on hbo, slowly but surely showtime is getting some names on their network. hbo probably didn't see martinez leaving as a big risk anyways, he's going to be 37 in a month or so. looks like i'm subscribing to showtime now though, some good quality fights happening.
