It has been this way for a while, hopefully a couple young guns start stepping up but a division being deep and strong is the exception not the rule, plus as that shakes out some guys move up or down thus bringing it back to normal such a thing never lasts.

147 was certainly stronger a few years ago with Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Williams, Mayweather, Cintron, Berto, etc.

Since then Cotto, Williams, Cintron and Margarito all moved up to 154 but Pacquiao and Ortiz moved up to 147.

I still think the division has a bright future because some fighters at 140 will soon be moving up like Bradley, Khan, Peterson, etc.

This guy is ****** or just ignorant. If you want to know the future of the welterweights there is a simple way. Just look at Super Featherweight, lightweight, super light weight,Jr welter weight! Its the same as always. Those guy get older, bigger, stronger and move up. Let me tell you Because of Floyd and Pacquiao, the future of the welters are great. They have inspired many many fighters in the lower weight divisions. Mayweather has raised the bar for Boxers pay. Gone are the days of Welterweight champions getting small money. Now its common for a welterweight champion to recieve 5 to 10 million. Nothing motivates a fighter like Money.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are two of best fighters of this past decade.

Fighters like them don't come around that often.

To expect more guys like them is being unrealistic imo.

You never know also, a guy or guys like them may come around.

Boxing is always full of surprises.

147 will be fine, all kinds of talent is sitting at 140 and will be moving up soon.
