Comments Thread For: Macklin: I'm Bigger, I'm Stronger, I'll Beat Sergio Martinez!

Middleweight Matthew Macklin (28-3, 19KOs) may be a big underdog on paper, but he believes the bookies have backed the wrong man. The British contender expects a career changing victory on March 17th when he faces Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Macklin gives Martinez the edge in speed, but that's where it ends. Macklin doesn't view Martinez as a legit middleweight.

You dont win big fights against quality boxers like Martinez with strength. Sure it helps, but you need something else.

I would say this is a lot more likely than "might", try "will most definately". I believe Sergio Martinez beat the best of the current crop of British fighters in his last outing.

delusional...Martinez will outbox him all night long, and once his face is busted (remember his paper skin) he is going to be KOed. Sturm had him out of his feet once he started to let his hands to go.

Hmm, did this guy learn absolutely nothing from his countryman Froch? Your plan when you fight an elite world-class fighter cannot just be that your bigger than your opponent. Martinez by mid-late round TKO.

froch is bigger than ward? they both look like full blown super middleweights to me. . . going by detailed measurements such as waist size, arm circumference, thighs, calves, etc. they are about the same. . . i'd say they both rehydrate anywhere from 175 to 180. . .

anyway, sergio martinez is a full blown middleweight. . if he wasn't, he would have chosen to hold on to his 154 pound WBC belt, rather than the 160 pound version. . . martinez walks around at every bit of 175 pounds (at least. . .

REMEMBER - for the PW rematch, at the 30 day mandatory weigh-in, he was 176 pounds. . . that means he probably started training camp around 180 pounds. . .
