Golovkin seems like an easier fight to me than Pirog. I don't get why he would want to fight Pirog instead of just getting is mandatory over with. I wonder if the WBA strips him.

Really? I see it the other way around, Golovkin is better than Pirog.

Which is probably why Pirog's promoters are staying far away from a Golovkin bout.

I have not seen Pirog fight. His resume has some nobodys with good records he beat and a win over Jantua, but that won't make anyone with a brain claim he's the real middleweight champ while Martinez still fights there! European hype?

First off, this wont happen. Sturm should work for fookin aflac.

Pirog has nice skills and seems like he should be a top fighter in the world, but there's something missing there imo. And i like dude a lot.

He's inactive, he poosyfoots around certain guys and it just seems like his team doesnt have the utmost confidence in him. It's disheartening because not a lot of dudes have his skillset and pop. Its always something with dude. If you want big fights and you're in your 30s, you gotta be willing to take more chance if ou think you're the man.

What's the sense of chasing that worm Sturm around? Dude is a waste of a belt and is only interested in the most dough for the least risk. Pirog lost all his momentum from the Jacobs win and there are dudes he can get in the ring with right now and make a name for himself against (golovkin, geale, etc). Come back to the us and chase maravella around. DO SOMETHING besides talk about big fights.

First of all, and I don't mean to sound like a smart-ass here, but Pirog is Russian; and Russia is in Asia not Europe. Therefore, there's no way he could be a 'European hypejob.". Second, you should most definitely watch some of his fights on YouTube. He's got some very good skills and can definitely punch. And third, I don't think anyone (with the right mind, at least) is placing him above Martinez. Martinez is the lineal champion and will continue to be until he loses or vacates the title. The only problem is that he's chasing fighters that are too small (Pacquiao and Mayweather) and fighters that don't mean anything (Chavez Jr.).

yeah, i didn't think they would respond like that. for me, that's one of the best matchups between two europeans. wish that would get made. hard to say who would win imo, i can see pirog decisioning him or golovkin cutting or beating him up to a tko.
and hopefully sturm takes this fight and pirog accepts, this would be a great fight for him. have no doubt in my mind pirog stops sturm.

Golovkin's manager and his trainer need to get on the same page:

Oleg Hermann, the manager of WBA "regular" middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (21-0, 18KOs), would like to see his fighter face WBO champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), but says the two boxers needs to fight in other markets, especially the United States, to build their names because most fans are not familiar with him and that creates a problem in selling this type of a fight to a major cable network. Almost all of Pirog's fights have been staged in Russia, while Golovkin has been fighting mostly in Germany.

Notice this is almost remarkably similar to the team Pirog press release

Sturm probably won't fight him but this is still a huge step up for Pirog who has beaten 1 unproven prospect like he still is now and 18 Russian vodka distillery workers.
