Hopkins was a green 27-1 middleweight champion.?

Green and Middlewieght Champ makes that an oxy moron.

No middlewieght beat him before, and no middleweight beat him after. He just looked green in there with Roy. As did everyone who was undefeated until they fought roy then they looked green.

Exactly, and those bringing up tarver, I'm not counting fights after the age of 35 dude. Once a fighter looses all his speed and power, I dont judge them. I judge when a guy was in his prime. Roy never lost in his prime. Most other guys did, like Bernard, Toney, Pacman, Sugar ray leonard etc. Every fighter who ever fought lost once they got old people. Make sense?

They are weak and made up excuses. Both B-Hop and Toney were in their prime and at their best.

Wow, guess you're not big on bhops resume then.

That loss of speed is more crucial to some fighters than others. But i can see how you love roy and are perfectly happy to create arbitrary guidelines to apply that benefit him when you want to slob his knob a little more. No biggie, its called "what fanboys do".

Rocky marciano and joe calzaghe didnt lose once they got old.

He wasn't a champ yet. He had risen to mando status with a career best win to then against Gilbert Baptist (gotta love the mando system). He was still a few fights away from an off the floor twice war with Mercado. Green is overstating. Pre-prime isn't. So was Roy, but he was closer to what he'd be then Hopkins was and had faced much better pro (and amateur) comp to then. Still a very good win but Hopkins developed into a total package as he faced better guys. Hopkins didn't really start to emerge as a great fighter until around 97 when he really started to mix his offense and defense seamlessly.

It's fair to say Hopkins wasn't beaten by another Middleweight...but also fair to note that Middleweight was not a particularly good division for most of Hopkins's run. He missed the stellar class that came through between he and Hagler. His dominance and key wins thus become crucial. However, without his post-40 run, Hopkins would be probably be viewed by history much differently; an ATG based on numbers and longevity where depth of comp lacked.

Hopkins was at his best and prime, huh? Is that why a year and a half later he got a draw with Segundo Mercado? The very same Mercado who went 1-8-1 after that point?

James Toney was at his best? Is that why he had been struggling to make weight and had fought several over the limit fights between the time he won the 168 title and the time he faced Jones? Is that why he moved up his next fight and lost to a fighter with 14 fights?

hopkins wasn't a middleweight champion yet. Hopkins won his first title two years later against Segundo Mercado.

And yes, Hopkins was a bit green. He wasn't as good as a fighter as he became later. Jones was probably a bit green himself too, but he had more experience at the time and was the more polished fighter. You have to remember when Jones was fighting top fighters in the Olympics, Hopkins was serving 5 years in prison. Huge difference.

Well then I guess Calzaghe and Marciano are the two best boxers of all time then huh?

Roy was dominant not because he was tough, not because he was super strong, but because he by far had the fastest hand speed of all time. Once those were gone, he was not good anymore. He went from 88 to 2003 unbeaten and unchallenged, while easily beating two guys that were aomong the top five in the 90's and number 1 at 160 and number 1 at 168. He beat Griffith who beat toney who was also undefeated. He made all of those guys look sorry. He then went and beat a heavyweight champ who had him by 40lbs. When ray robinson went to cruiser he lost. Roy dominated all time greats and went from 160 to heavyweight. I cant hate on that, if you can, your just a hater. Not pac, not floyd not anyone has done anything close to that. Holler.

Well, to me Hop never showed he could beat Roy. Years later when Hop was beating a much smaller Trinidad, Roy was beating a heavyweight after going through three more divisions. Hop still at 160 beating guys much smaller than him and loosing to Jermain Taylor.
