I really wanted to see this fight back in 2008, with Floyd coming off the ODL and Hatton fights and Cotto at the top of his game. But then Floyd "retired" and Cotto was hit with plaster from Margacheato. Now it would be a big draw but a one sided points victory for Mayweather.

Old video taken out of context but I do belive that Cotto had a chance of beating FMJr.

I agree, at one point Cotto's pressure would have told, he cut off the ring better than anyone in the sport and did it behind a punishing and educated left jab. He would whale away with hooks to Mayweather's body along the ropes and out muscle him up close. His skin wasnt getting messed up so easy, his chin was good and he had excellent power and a good defence

Thats one scenario anyway and one thats possible in my view but of course Floyd Mayweather who is one hell of a fighter himself and always has been, would have other idea's....

Now id buy the fight but im not at all confident in Cotto winning it. He is looking pretty good again, his confidence is returning having exercised the ghosts of the Margarito fight and with a new trainer who i like what ive seen from as well as an improved looking right hand and a better mentality to boxing.... What i mean by that is at one point he had fallen in love with the KO and went flat out Pressure fighter and while it was working and getting some results it was taking a toll. He is going back to being a more technical boxer and at this weight where he isnt quite the puncher he was at 140 and 147 and doesn't have the advantage of bulking up after the weigh in and being the bigger stronger man i think its the right move. Plus now he cuts and swells far more easily after a tough career and the punches are coming from bigger men....

I think Mayweather would have his way with Cotto now and the speed difference would be alot wider than before in Floyd's favour while the strength and power difference might have closed a little.

Its a fight though, id buy it....

not imo, cottos is a decent fighter, but he has always been a level or 2 below floyd mayweather.

still, it would have been good to see mayweather fight cotto in 08.

Ill buy the fight as well.

On the other hand, I belive that what Cotto needs is a solid win vs a solid 154lbs fighter. This will have a two fold benefit: 1. Boost his confidence even higher and 2. Prove to his "nay sayers/haters" that he is 100% buisness and ready to take on anyone.

One more fight with a quality 154 pounder, and follow up with either a FMJr or Paquiao fight will be the way to go.

Ill be happy with a unification fight with Canelo...let Cotto "pop da' cherry!"

If i could decide what he did next id have him face Saul Alvarez in a unification bout, i actually rate the undefeated Canelo but would favour Miguel on his experience and the jab....

After that id throw him back in with Pacquaio and thats a fight i think he could win by BOXING, Pac has shown movement messes him up. Cotto had all the cards stacked against him last time (weight, trainer, confidence) but still troubled Manny until he decided to trade and when he got on his bike late Manny was clearly frustrated and less effective

Id probably just swerve Mayweather, the guy is so good but it would also be a great way to close out his career win or lose. There are plenty of top fights for him vs guys like Kirkland, Lara, Williams ect.. if he cant land the mega fights vs PBF & Pac

I fear though Bob will push for a Chavez Jnr bout though that wouldnt bring much credit and respect even though its a very very dangerous fight - Chavez walks around at about 200lbs i hear, the guys massive at MW and Cotto is a stump of a JMW... Chavez isnt on Miguel's level in terms of talent though so he may overcome that but like i said he wouldnt get the deserved credit for it if he did

Agree. Chaves is a big dude, Miguel will outbox him but he is just too big for him.

It will be an up-hill battle for Cotto, one that he may win, but could be dificult.
