    ??? come on now...

Calzaghe is too old now, he's 39 and his style isn't like B-Hop so he wouldn't be as competitive now.

In his prime however, he probably has the edge on Ward but it's a good fight, no doubt.

      laughable
Joe fought two past prime fighters in their 40's and got dropped in the process lmaoo. The man he fought was not THE RJJ

to compare him to hopkins is pretty ******ed your right. joe couldn't hold hopkins' nutstrap. coming from a non hopkins fan.
You are mistaken. In you post, #42, on page 5, you said "Toney and Hopkins all fought each other in their primes......."

And what's the obsession with "nutstraps" and other similiar crap. When you wish to reply to a properly inoffensive letter, why inject all these vulgar, thug-like, references. If you need to know, the original comment which all the "tough" guys love to quote, was by Larry Holmes, referring to Rocky Marciano. It mentioned "jockstrap". As far as I recall.

DagDumb must be crapping his pants in rage over this article.

I think Calzaghe would have outworked him for a close UD, then the usual suspects would be screaming robbery for years. Usual suspects: Calzaghe haters, black people who can't stand to see a white guy win and Ward fanatics (if there are any).

Of course now he's old and has been inactive for too long. But who knows, perhaps he can re-start his career and face some tune-ups?

Waard may be faster & slick, Joe was clever, a lefty, and technically sound, more than enough to beat Ward...stay retired Joe, you've nothing to prove...

So people actually think that Calzaghe (24-0) is faster and stronger than Ward (currently 24-0) and would beat him.

Take a look (vid below) at Calzaghe after 24 fights and tell me if that beats Ward

Calzaghe look dazzingly fast and incredibly strong in his fight against the unknown Sobot

Calzaghe's resume after 24 pro fights = Past prime Eubank

Ward's resume after 24 pro fights = Froch, Abraham, Bika, Kessler, Miranda, Green

it's actually easier to hurt or break your hands when you throw those open handed punches so i don't really see your point. your knuckles are tucked a little so when you hit someone with your open hand it smashes them. it's not a 100 percent open handed slap but it's as close as you can get in boxing terms. and he doesn't throw slaps because he hurt his hands. he hurt his hands because he throws slaps. always has. watch his early fights. yes he throws straight shots now and again but his main arsenal has always been slap warfare.
Just had another look at your post. What ARE you talking about. The VERY first thing an intending boxer learns is the proper way to close his hand....to close the knuckles firmly, and then bring the thumb across the centre joint. All firmly.

The REASONs are threefold. 1) this compacts the fist. 2) Also keeps the thumb, an easily injured digit in a fist fight, from sticking out and being sprained or broken. 3) Helps to give better punch power with less hand damage.

Perhaps you should just look it up. Likely under "mechanics of the proper way to punch".....

Ward has the potential to have a great career, and he's yet to hit his prime, which is amazing. Maybe we should wait till he actually reaches his prime to compare them appropriately. To Ward's credit people are actually comparing him to a prime Calzaghe when he hasn't even hit it yet. I think the current version of Ward versus a prime Calzaghe could go either way. I think the current version of Ward (24-0) versus Calzaghe (24-0) beats him by unanimous decision, maybe even knock him out. In 2 - 3 years time I will be able to tell you appropriately how fully primed Ward fairs against a prime Calzaghe.

"...I must say, I'm most excited about the fact that we were able to look good, do what we had to do, but it still wasn't my best. I'm still a young pup, I still got a lot of work to do, and I'm excited to be able to fight and put on that kind of performance knowing that's not my very best. So I'm just excited, man. I'm looking forward to my next fight already. I'm letting my body rest, but I'm looking forward to my next fight. I just know there's a lot more in the tank. I feel like I'm approaching my prime now. I'll be 28 in February. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm looking forward to the 28, the 29, the 30-year-old Andre Ward and just what's going to evolve. I'm just excited, man. It was a great fight, but it still wasn't my best performance," stated unified WBA & WBC Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward, who spoke in-depth about his performance in his victory over Carl Froch last weekend in the finals of the Super Six Tournament." http://www.fighthype.com/pages/conte...cf122f290c1cc4

hopkins wasn't allowed to fight on the inside because cortez was the ref(i'm sure not an accident)

so shouldn't hopkins win? why would it go either way? throwing more punches has no bearing on scoring a fight. you can say it counts against ineffective aggression but what does it count for? ring generalship possibly? so he possibly won 1 criteria out of the 4 and he clearly lost in clean punching, effective aggression, and defense. either way? what a world.
It could go either way b/c Hopkins--post Trinidad--had a bad tendency of not letting his hands go.. And much to Joe's credit I think he and Enzo kind of knew this going in--I guess drawing off of Jermain Taylor's blue-prints.

To be honest with you it wasn't a very 'good looking' fight; so, I guess the judges had a hard time scoring it, thus playing it safe by leaning on the side of more active fighter.
