While he was undisputed he refused to travel to the U.S.A to fight, and as a champion why should he have gone? How many times does Mayweather travel overseas to defend a title? How many times did Bernard Hopkins travel overseas to defend his titles?
Why do you think a British champion needs to travel to defend his titles? The only reason they do it is to earn more money. Props to Joe for not selling out. Facts are none, or not many of the American fighters of the time were willing to come to the UK to fight because if they did they were coming to meet Ubank, Benn, Colins, Joe. Even the B list super middles were top notch, Henry Warton, Robin Reed.
please. Joe didnt want to "risk the crown ***els" to fight a prime RJJ. He never foght Toney or Hopkins, who all fought each other in their respective primes. Calzaghe won the title of a past prime Eubank who is a british legend and NOT a hall of famer. Americans don't have to leave the states because of the tradition of big fights in this country, you should know this. calzaghes best wins are over kessler, and a 44 year old hopkins. Ward already trumps that

dude im not American but thats where the big fights are, u can defend him all u like, but its very well known in most cases if u havent made it in the U.S then u havent made it. Please bro he slapped worse than a b!tch, everyone is KOing RJJ and he still went the distance with him and got dropped himself in the process, sc****d a decision against a 44yo Hopkins, face it his greatest achievement was against Kessler, he is hardly an ATG, good fighter yes but not much more than that, maybe he was but we will never know cause he never really tested himself.

that's what a lot of people fail to acknowledge over and over again. they live in fantasy land. you tell them all the top fights take place in the usa and they call you nationalistic or some nonsense. no its only the truth! look where the top 6 p4p fighters all fight. in the usa. they do that for a reason. bum fighters like calzaghe and john could easily relocate here and continue their careers but they choose not to. especially calzaghe since he speaks english but he took the easy way and has a terrible legacy to show for it. fitting.

Joke Alzaghe must have his fights mixed up with one of his ******* binges. Jocaine never fought "strong" he was a pitter patting work with no balls and a vulture preying on the carcasses of legends...even though one of them (Hopkins) beat his ass anyway

I think you are incorrect in saying that Hopkins fought Toney either in his prime or any other time. He deliverately restricted himself to fightng smaller, nondescript part-time boxers at middleweight, (making himself a well protected 6'1.5" middl understand understance at a title shot, I caneweight) having a huge advantage over every guy he fought.

Hopkins is as far as i'm concerned one of the least deserving champions in history.
A 5' 8.5" Marvin Hagler, who was a small middle, and had to persevere for well over 50 fights before he got a chance at a title shot, avoiding nobody, I can understand, and he also had many 160 lb worthy challengers who kept him busy until he finally, near the end of his career got the big money change he'd been looking for. When Tommy Hearns challenged him. As unlike any version of Hopkins as possible to visualise........

Hopkins......I hold my nose........ Let his lunatic thug fan(atics) glorify him likw Caesar.....

Bwa ha ha ha....serious Calslappy!? Too much power?? Stay off that powder Joe. Ward would have given him a clinic. Only way he would have left England to fight him is if Ward was well past his prime. Come out of retirement and prove it. A LOT of good fights for him still.
