Comments Thread For: DiBella: Sergio Martinez Will Not Take Fights at 168

Promoter Lou DiBella once again made it clear that WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) would not move up in weight to take fights at 168-pounds, whether it's Andre Ward, Lucian Bute or other possible opponents. DiBella told BoxingScene.com that Martinez is currently walking around below the middleweight limit, and has no problem taking a fight at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds. Martinez is scheduled to return on March 17th, likely against Matthew Macklin.

      That's fine.

      Plenty of comp at 154.

        conclusion:

Martinez would rather fight smaller guys (Pac and Floyd) rather than fighting bigger men(Ward and Bute).

Pac & Floyd: Low risk, High Reward
Ward & Bute: High risk, Low Reward

Martinez should stay between 154-160 the JMW division is deep its a lot of good potential fights for Martinez at that weight

Thats BS, how ****** does Dibella think we are? I have seen him well over 175 for his mandatory 30 day weigh ins, he never looked overweight in those time periods. I highly doubt he would walk around at or below 160 since he did not do that when he fought at 154. This whole article shows the hypocritical attitude of Martinez and his team to constantly call out Pacquiao, Mayweather and Cotto to fight him but refuse to even consider a move to a weight class above him.

IMO Sergio is a one-man circus, DiBella's his part-time Dom De Luise.

You can't blame people after all the hypocrisy Martinez spew. I like the guy, and he knows what time it is, but he's just getting ridiculous.

And after what Andre Ward proved last weekend this is no surprise.

Wow... same argument can be made for Pac at 140 and maybe Mayweather... probably not though.
Seriously, if you're closer to 154, then go to freaking 154. You can make more money fighting Canelo or Cotto anyway.
Also I agree with everyone else... the refusal to rise in weight class just shows their hypocrisy... like when Roach made that catchweight comment about Canelo for JCC jr
