If Chavez win, a possible big money fight with Cotto would loom. I don't see Arum passing up that chance just so that Chavez can try and keep the WBC belt. I'm very skeptical about Chavez fighting Martinez before he fights Cotto.

i wouldn't mind chavez holding that belt as long as it's agreed that the winner of chavez/rubio faces martinez afterwards. that said, i doubt scumbag arum agrees to this. he could have chavez prove himself against rubio and if he wins, he'll try and make a cotto or alvarez fight. if it does get made, i hope rubio wins somehow cause then we know rubio will defend his belt against martinez for sure.

If Rubio beats Chavez convincingly and becomes champion, Rubio will gain a huge new Mexican fanbase. As sad as it sounds, Rubio would be the third most well known middleweight in America with that Chavez win. Martinez vs Rubio would be a much bigger fight then. And Rubio won't duck Martinez unlike Chavez.

If Chavez beats Rubio, he'll be a more credible opponent for Martinez.

I actually think the deal is pretty good if it happens. It's a great way to build the fight. Martinez beats Macklin in March while looking much better than he did against Barker. And the winner of Chavez vs Rubio fights Martinez next for the WBC belt.

          This^^^^I^^^^^Agree

Chavez is going to have to box and fight smart and he will knock Rubio out I read some where that Donaire vs Vazquez is on the undercard to this that will be cool if it is.

The forums and the articles published on this site are two seperate things. I would like to trust that the articles on here have some sort of filter or editor that makes sure the material is not fabricated. This article claims that Lou and Bob struck a deal to allow Jr to defend his title against Rubio. There is another article published earlier today that says Lou is demanding a purse bid for Chavez Martinez. Which one is true? A simple phone call to someone in Martinez's camp or at the WBC would clear this up but boxingscene chooses to publish lies.
