Ward leads with his head sometimes; that's not the same as straight up butting. He punches at the same time. Fighters have been doing it forever and most talented infighters make an art of it. It's a fight. There are tactics to overcome that stuff.
Kessler lost because he was clueless fighting inside, same reason Calzaghe came on after the first third and even hurt him downstairs. He needed to step to the side and whip an uppercut. He couldn't/didn't all night. I've always really liked Kessler and I love what Montoya appears to be doing with him based on his last outing. He is shortening his shots, whipping more to the body, and bringing the cut. A rematch could be interesting if Kessler can get active and stay healthy. There's not a lot of guys who can get past his jab. Ward could. Kessler couldn't adjust and, while Reiss stunk that night, it was still a tactical loss. Kessler would have lost almost anywhere on earth that night (say almost because it's boxing).
He's still a factor and, if Froch wins the 6, revenge could be a hell of a motive to get an even better rematch. Kessler may wear the big crown yet.
