Yes it is!!!
Number 2 states it already. Find the local rules of athletic commissions, it's written there as well!
It just happens to be tolerated be refs, which is horse****. Only rarely does it get enforced.
If I'm not mistaken Berto for example cos penalized for excess clinching against Collazo. That's how it should be! Boxing is not about clinching, that has nothing to do with skill. Yes it happens inevitably a lot of times when fighters collide, but when someone is doing it on purpose numerous times it SHOULD be penalized.Comment

The clinch – Clinching is a form of trapping or a rough form of grappling and occurs when the distance between both fighters has closed and straight punches cannot be employed. In this situation, the boxer attempts to hold or "tie up" the opponent's hands so he is unable to throw hooks or uppercuts. To perform a clinch, the boxer loops both hands around the outside of the opponent's shoulders, scooping back under the forearms to grasp the opponent's arms tightly against his own body. In this position, the opponent's arms are pinned and cannot be used to attack. Clinching is a temporary match state and is quickly dissipated by the referee. Clinching is technically against the rules, and in amateur fights points are deducted fairly quickly for it. It is unlikely, however, to see points deducted for a clinch in professional boxing.Comment

yes yes we know technically it's against the rules, so is ducking your head below the waist. It's part of the game though and always has been for over 100 years. Using your own wiki links (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing)

Inside fighting is a form of art, and we barely see it anymore. Clinching helps fighters get away with avoiding this, which is totally against the rules.
Look at Corrales Castillo, do we see that anymore? Rios Antillon showed us thank god. People talk about inside fighting with Ward, that is NOT inside fighting. It's constant clinching and should be penalized.
Like I said it's inevitable sometimes, but excess is just plain illegal and gives certain boxers the advantage. (I love Bhop but he abuses that rule to his own benefit)Comment

whats wrong with the picture is ur a d*ckhead. and i never get tired of picking on u. lol. did u watch the video? most of those werent even legit clinches.so plz, by all means continue to expose your lack of boxing knowledge.
btw, i wonder if fans back in the day used to go around complaining about junk like this? as long as both fighters were fighting, which they were (thats inside fighting) i dont see the issue. its not the hug, hug some more to escape offense **** berto does.Comment
