Comments Thread For: Sulaiman: Chavez Jr. is Like a Son, He Must Fight Martinez

World Boxing Council President Jose Sulaiman said it wasn't easy to order WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31KOs) to fight Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs). Sulaiman, while realizing the danger involved in facing Martinez, believes the time has come for Chavez Jr. to showcase his worth as a champion to the world. At the WBC's convention at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Chavez was ordered to fight Martinez next - unless their respective promoters can reach an alternate agreement.

Nice he stuck to his word. Now lets see if Chavez drops the belt.

If fight is made I got Sergio stopping Chavez in the late rounds.

I think this will make way for Chavez JR vs. Canelo or Cotto. Perhaps they give that belt Sergio has now to Chavez LOL.

I don't really see what the problem would be for Chavez. Martinez had
difficulty with the bigger Englishman, how much more difficult will Chavez be
when he comes in to fight at 175 libs.? I think Chavez is a mistake for
Martinez. He'd be much better off fighting Cotto or Mayweather.

The main difference here is that Barker had a solid closed guard that was very hard for Martinez to break, while Jr is not known for his defense since he has a bad stance and receives a lot of punches as it was proven against Zbik.
Jr is big and strong but his style is completely different from Barker and IMO it would make the fight easier for Martinez
