I've been saying for a while that Chad will fold Bhop if this fight happens and i think Popkins will pull every old trick to make sure this fight doesn't happen whilst he carefully cherry picks an easier touch

I can't think of a more compelling storyline with a completely unappealing fight attached. No rematch please, hbo? Showtime? Didn't think so. Hopkins, if ya got aspirations of cruiser or heavy gold, go for it, if not walk off into the sunset. As for Dawson, weak game, weak personalty, do whatever, I couldn't care less.

This has "gritty, boring, 12 round 115-113 fight" written all over it.

Dawson will come out strong looking to make a statement, Hopkins will counter effectively and clinch a lot to smother his output, while bullying him in the clinch.

Could be a repeat of Hopkins/Wright.

That said, I hope the fight happens anyway, because I've been saying for years that Chad can't hang with Bernard and will get bullied in the clinch. I don't care how ugly the fight is, how unappealing it is to casuals, or how little it does to elevate either guy : I just want to see Hopkins decision this kid and shut everybody up about his (legit) injury.

Then you guys can all go back to talking about how boring he is, until he fights Bute and puts a clinic on him like Pascal or Pavlik, at which point you guys will all claim he's the GOAT.

I've been here since 2006 and this is how it always goes with Bernard's career.

HBO signed Hopkins to a 3 fight deal just prior to the Pascal rematch.



If hopkins doesn't get his $1+ million dollar payday that he wants, he could easily drop the WBC belt and still be The Ring Champion, which is better than all the other alphabet titles. Just sayin.

I agree about the money, I'm not positive hbo will pay for it but who knows.

But I will say this, it was the absolute RIGHT THING TO DO by the WBC. No question about that.

I also want to see the Dawson-BHop rematch. I'm betting on Dawson if it happens.

Isn't Adrien Bronner a Golden Boy fighter?? I could easily see HBO packaging a show featuring an up and coming fighter as a double header with this.

Oh to the point Hopkins dropping the belt. Lets be realistic here. I'm a FORMER big time Hopkins fan but...Hopkins LEVERAGE is that BELT if it means anything. NO one (not even in Philadelphia) is lining up to SEE Hopkins frankly. So an opponent with more drawing power (like a Bute for example who STILL has unfinished business at '68 by the way which is what makes Hopkins calling him out utter BS) has ZERO incentive to fight him unless he HAS a belt.

If Hopkins were a cash cow draw, you could see it. But he's not.

HBO poorly promoted the last fight. Usually they'll have a "COUNTDOWN" as an adjunct but they didn't even have that.

Package this with an up and coming exciting guy. Heck even Gary Russell Jr fits the bill. Put it in a casino a'la ATlantic City or Mohegan Sun where they can PAPER it at the minimum to fill the seats.
