I trained with RJ for the fight with Serwano and I sat with Smoke Gainer in the first row right behind Roys corner. I honestly thought Art might have been killed with that punch. He got hit so flush and fast and hard and the way he fell..it was so early in the fight and he wasnt warmed up... It was ugly

When you say trained w/ Roy, do you mean sparred w/ him if so how was it like knowing you were gonna get your @ss handed to ya everytime you stepped in the ring w/ him. Since you are an expert how do you think a fight between a "Prime" Wilfred Benitez against "Prime" DeLahoya would've played out at 147lbs.

It was a good shot, Jones Jr (or 'RJ' as he was back then) could really punch back then.. for the younger guys who have only seen recent Jones Jr, well Jones Jr at 154-160-168 was never the pitter-patter single-potshotting guy he was at 175.

John, do you think Jones Jr could of beaten Terry Norris back in 1990? I remember back in 1990 he was saying that he could beat Norris but his Dad wouldn't let him fight him. Was he just too inexperienced for Norris back then? Jones Jr was calling out Eubank back in 1991 after the Eubank-Sherry fight (Jones Jr fought Sherry in the amateurs?), back then he'd of probably been stopped by the pre-Watson Eubank. And.. Buster Douglas, when was he calling out Buster?? If it was back in 1990 that he was calling out Buster, how the heck could he fight at HW because he was only weighing in the 150's at the time?

            That's pretty ignorant.

I have a video of Ice Sparring with RJJ and he holds his own to say the least. It was an exciting session, and Ice was working Roy pretty good against the ropes.

no disrespect but fighters hold back in sparing not to say it didn't happen for real or roy was not giving his all just that it sometimes happens

Roy and I sparred for some big fights and the sparring was intense... especially the sessions in Maryland that are on tape. What you have to realize is that in the gym you see the best of certain guys and the gaps are closed because you take away the fear of getting cut, losing a decision etc

Actually, there would of been a heck of a lot of interest in that, thinking about it. Douglas had just made his comeback and all, and it would of been abit of a freak fight and very interesting back then and $$$ I guess.
