He never got stick for putting his titles on the line, he's getting stick for the amateurish performance and fouling while trying to land a fight with one of the biggest guys in boxing.

I dont remember seeing Khan get any stick for putting his titles on the line across the border.

NOONE has given Khan stick for putting his titles on the line, but you seem to be forgetting that Khan paid no respect for Peterson and thought he was going to walk right through him so in reality, Khan didn't even think he was taking any risks.

Instead he ended up getting exposed slightly, looking amateurish and losing due to lack of answer to Petersons pressure outside of fouling.

Props to the guy for putting up his belts out of town sure, but lets not pretend he was taking this for anything more than a walk in the park, as opposed to a "big risk".

I guess the boxing world has become so used to fighters not taking that risk that its become the norm to stay at home or go neutral, then we get upset when people like Chris John dont dare fighting out there back yards.

I agree with the same notion. The fact that he was looking ahead into the future is proof enough for me. Usually when you ask a fighter who're you thinking of next, they say I'm focused on my opponent now and whatever.... Maybe khan has said that before... but the amount of times he talked about Mayweather and WW division is mind boggling.

He DOES get credit from anyone that's aware of it. That's why I've said this over and over: be objective. Look at things from all perspectives.

I was rooting for Peterson and am happy for him winning the belts and a big upset. However, I'm fully aware that the ref's point deductions played a major role in the fight. I scored the fight 113-112 for Khan, point deductions and all. On top of that, it's extremely hypocritical to slam Khan for labeling him a "hypejob", "bum" or any other negative term that people love handing out like cheap candy when a boxer loses (even if it's a razor thin decision). Most of the time people look at the result, and not the circumstances behind the loss or how the fight went. Khan is still a good fighter and most people will tell you that they had Khan winning even with the point deductions, regardless of who they were rooting for.

I'll be quick to admit that I don't like Khan's twittering, big-mouthed, ****y personality, but as a fighter he's been fighting big names/solid contenders in the past two years straight. Kotelnik, Malignaggi, Maidana, McCloskey, tried to get THE fight with Bradley by offering him a 50-50 split, Judah, and now Peterson (in HIS hometown)...very ballsy. He deserves some slack. He was attempting to clean out 140 (or at least most of it), and at the very least he deserves some applause for that because most fighters nowadays stick mainly to the business-side. I'm not saying that's wrong, but when you have fighters that are absolutely willing to fight the best...that counts for something; win, lose, or draw.

I don't think the loss is that big a deal. In the old days, if a guy lost, he lost. It wasn't that he was exposed or a hypejob or fraudulent or overrated. He lost. I think that Amir was in a back-and-forth war that could have gone either way and was on the short end of the decision.

100% agree with this post. The major thing that has been killing me about boxing nowadays has been how a loss is so overexaggerated!! In the golden olden days, from what i have studied and what my pops told me, a loss was a loss, you picked up and moved on and came back stronger with the fans still believing in you! Now the fans are so quick to right anyone off! Why??? I dont get it. This is what is killing the sport in my opinion and stopping the so many potential super fights we could have had!

Boxers dont earn anything these days like they used to, that's why.

They dont fight each other, they take the easy way out and they have big mouths.

The promoters are crooked, there are no real rules anywhere and the whole thing is mostly based on selling the public lies to take money from them.

It's basically a cherry picking get rich scheme for those with the right connections.

Also, if you talk like you're king kong and you get blasted into the mat, you're gonna get laughed at and ridiculed. It's not rocket science.

Humble boxers dont receive the same treatment after a loss as a big mouthed one, especially when they put up a spectacular fight. Ward and Gatti and a prime example.

However, if you're gonna be talking like you're world class material and get shown up and exposed by "B-grade" fighters, expect a little flak coming your way or just shut the hell up next time.

Then again, they wont shut up because its all for the show and they WANT people to be talking ish about them, as long as they're talking about them they're on cloud nine.

I think it was admirable for Khan (a show of arrogance imo) to have a title fight in the contender's hometown. He didn't have to, but he did anyway. However, instead of getting mad at all of Washington D.C., he should just focus his frustrations on the ref. Peterson already said he doesn't mind having the rematch in England, so Khan will get his favor repaid.
