Well Diaz keeps fighting very average fighters and looks good against them, but thats because they are average. He's slated (I believe) to take on Sim again which is ridiculous because he already beat him and beat him fairly easily.

Diaz is too easy to find, and hasn't yet been in with 1 opponent who could really crack. He'll get a rude awakening when he steps his game up.

While you think that he may be a better prospect than Cotto, you must also remember that Cotto has already been in with a diverse group of opponents. Torres could crack, Corley was slick, Abdullaev was defensive, N'Dou was a tough pressure guy, etc...

We have yet to see Diaz in with anyone worth a damn.

    Just my opinion.

i see what youre saying, i guess im really just not a big fan of a lot of those guys cotto fought, i think there was a reason for them being chosen. i was impressed by him pulling out the torres fight i must admit. though i was pissed cause i put 50 bucks on torres at 15-1 and it looked like i was gonna get lucky for awhile.

were really comparing apples and oranges talking about guys 3-4 years apart so early in their careers.

i think you have to admit he has made very good progress, he has a major title at the age of 22. cotto was still fighting journeyman when he was 22 and he hadnt gotten a title shot yet. hopefully in the next year diaz will step it up as cotto did when he turned 23. id like to see him in with a good name guy sometime soon. but hes young and still growing into his body, i think his handlers are going to be careful with him. he is an american fighter and a potential cash cow in this highly competitive division.

Juan Diaz looked like a fighter tha shoulda been at 130 when he was at 135... at 140 he is commiting career suicide. He should keep sitting on his 135 lb belt and fight nobodies because he cant hang with any of top tier fighters at either division.

at 135 he gets beat by,

        Corrales by Brutal KO
        Julio Diaz by Brutal KO
        Chavez by 12 round beating

at 140 he gets beat by

        Floyd by brutal beating stoppage
        Castillo by Murder
        Cotto by Murder
        Lazcano by Murder

ok ok I think u get the point now.

          pendejo..

you're saying Castillo would MURDER Diaz but Corrales would Brutally KO him?

When exactly has Diaz showed signs of getting MURDERED by Castillo or Corrales..

When diaz couldnt be effective offensively (from a damage and well-picked shots point of view) against a fat, old, inactive, unknown fighter by the name of Julian Lorcy.

            P E N D E J O.

Do you expect these fighters to be sucking wind while diaz hits nothing but glove and elbows like against Lorcy?

Diaz is a very ineffective fighter. Compare Jesus Chavez to him, both have high stamina, highly active, punches and punches types of fighters. The difference is Chavez looks for the openings and creates them, and Diaz mindlessly throws, hitting glove 90% of the fight.

You think his feather fisted punch, and his ineffective rate is enough to keep Corrales or Castillo off of him?

            Please..

He doesn't want to go to jail, if he hits him in the face, he will KILL him and go to jail.

His power is to much for Lorcy to handle.

for all the talk about cotto on here i cant believe nobody ever stops to talk about juan diaz. he is moving to junior welter, where he, not cotto, is the future of ths division.

                      Dude, gitta grip!

Diaz is a fine young fighter, but he's an itty bitty lightweight, like in teensy. He stands no chance against the elites at 135 and risks some serious damage at 140.
