The best Light Welterweight prospect is not Miguel Cotto

it is juan "the baby bull" diaz

for all the talk about cotto on here i cant believe nobody ever stops to talk about juan diaz. he is moving to junior welter, where he, not cotto, is the future of ths division.

for those of you who dont know.

juan diaz (houston tex) turned pro at 17, he is currently 22 years old with a professional record of 28-0. he is the reigning WBA lightweight champion.

    imagine this scenario......

3-4 years from now Juan Diaz the undisputed undefeated Junior welterweight champion of the worlds squares off with Floyd Mayweather Junior the undisputed undefeated welterweight champion fo the world.... what boxing fan wouldnt cream for that?

is anybody with me on this guy? i think he is the real deal.

I'm not impressed. I want to see him step up the competition a little bit. I think Abdaluev - Diaz would be a good fight. Abbie is easily the most underated jr. welterweight fighter there. Easily a top 10 prospect. He got blown out by Cotto, but his other loss was a blatant robbery.

if he were 26 or 27 i think thatd be fair but to me i think he has fought solid competition considering he is only 22, if you ask me he has fought equal or better competition lately than abdulaev has and abdulaev is 31. this thread is more about the future, abdaluev will be retireing when diaz is becoming prime.

plus diaz already owns a title more prestigious than any that abdulaev has ever won.

Abdaluev was tailor-made for Cotto's style.

I believe Cotto was at his best when he fought Abdaluev because he was counter-punching and moving and Abbie couldn't touch him. Abdaluev would cause fits to Ndou, Corley, Witter any of the lower-tier top 10 guys at 140.

im not saying anything bad about abdaluev but as you said, hes tailor made for cotto's style, which means he will always be tailor made for it.

i think diaz could beat cotto soon, i doubt wed see the fight so its kinda pointless to speculate. but the point being..

i jusy have a lot of respect (and some hope i must admit) for diaz, he seems to be put together great. he is very disciplined, respectful and determined. the guy still lives with his parents and goes to bed at 9 every night because he doesent even want to tempt himself, he has also completed a college degree while being a world champion professional fighter.. that alone should tell you somehting about his work ethic. he is really the kind of guy that boxing fans should want to see succeed.

I enjoy Diaz but first off he's a lightweight and he's just waiting to be exposed. If you wanna see the biggest mismatch in boxing history than you'll enjoy Mayweather vs Diaz.

                  This post is laughable...

Juan Diaz is a nice fighter and comes to fight every fight, but he'll be groslly exposed by the first semi-elite fighter he takes on.

Cotto, Hatton, Lazcano, Corrales, Castillo, Witter, Mayweather, etc all blow him out of the water.

I believe he is planning the move to junior welter after his next bout, he is already being ranked as such.... i could be wrong, but he will end up there eventually one way or the other.

why do you think he is going to be exposed?? he is only 22, i didnt say he should get in with mayweather today.. my post was that he is a better prospect than cotto, while you may disagee with that, i hardly think diaz is dying to be exposed
